Hi All
Still searching for my first e bike have taken members advice and had test rides on Eco Expediton & Oygen Mtb both companies could not be more helpful I really liked the Oxygen but at nearly twice the price of the Eco I suppose that was expected .The other make that really interests me are wing e bikes in Kettering they make a range of more powerful 48v 1000w off road bikes , but are too far away to test ride , does any one know this company . My riding will all be off road will the more powerful 1000w bike feel very different to the 250w oxygen ,also will the more powerful bike have a significantly shorter range ,any advice will be greatly appreciated
Regard Gbay

Hi Gbay,

Just to clarify, from a legal standpoint a 48v 1000w bike is only legal to ride on private land where the public has no access.

Actually if the 1000w bike is direct drive it will be worse at steep hill climbing than something like an Ezee hub, I have owned one in the past and it peaked at 2 kw it was good (in a moped way) on the flat and normal hills but on steeper hills its vital to keep the speed up by pedalling hard or burnout the motor, if you were really going to use it off road on a steep route it would be a pain in the ... as it needs speed to not overheat, wont start well on a steep hill, the back wheel weighs ~10kg so balance is poor and power consumption on steep terrain will be severe otherwise no problem :)

If you want serious off road a mid drive would be my choice.
