E Shift

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but, what do we know about this please?

Apparently its coming to some brands for their 2018 models. It looks particularly interesting on the E14 Rohloff hubs. I have googled and watched a few vids and I am hoping that the R&M models will have it for 2018 as that will be a reason for me to dive in and purchase I think.

Any comments?

It changes gears automatically, sounds good, doesn't Shimano Steps do the same thing, a bit like automatic gearboxes in cars.

Are you sure it changes gears automatically? I thought there was a + and - selector on the handlebars for up and down shifts, but, that a little electric motor made the changes instead of the old cable style changes. Much like the Di2 system I think?

Also, I am not afraid to buy into new technology provided it is manufactured by a brand I am confident in.

I think it works on your cadence. You set a level and the gears change to maintain it. The + - maybe ways of upping or lowering your level.
