Today's Working Lunch program on BBC 2 had a long feature on the Electric Bike Shop at Oxford and Jamie and co there. Different makes were featured and two bikes were ridden around Oxford and the subject was very sensibly presented with plenty of information and a good description of the way they work with pedelec when riding.

Channel 5 please note, this is the way to present the subject, not the nonsensical Gadget Show approach.

Electric Bike Shop's plans are for a nationwide chain of e-bike shops, building from their present three.

Those who have the BBC's I-Player can probably watch again.

Just watched it!

Yes just caught it, as it was on in the background while I was waiting for the one o'clock news. Have recorded it to show the wife:)

what was the model being ridden? as it looked pretty conventional, which must be good from a security/theft perspective.

Like you I had it on in the background, but to follow the spoken content, so didn't catch the make of the first one, the one being put onto a stand was a Powacycle, and the last one ridden I think was a Synergie, though I only saw a scrap of the name in one shot.

And with the Synergie Mistral and Powacycle Salisbury and a Powacycle folder shown, there was an eZee model featured as well, the Torq Trekking.

The burgundy Mistral was the model ridden through the streets at the beginning and end of the programme, not very fast at the start as the presenter pedalled first without power, and then zoomed away with the motor on. If you want to pedal the Mistral without power even on the flat you definitely have to drop a gear or two to turn the brushed motor.

electric bikes on BBC working lunch

Hi Folks, thought you might be interested to learn that the lunch time business programme 'working lunch' has just today done a nice feature spot on the Poweracycle electric bike shop in Cambridge.
They gave electric bikes in general a very positive image, especially in view of current and pending 'hits' on the motorist. The programme and the video clips can be viewed on BBC's site www.bbc.co/workinglunch.
I may have got the www thing slightly wrong but I am sure it will appear eventually ! silversurfer.:)

Sorry for that flecc, just spotted your earlier post, and my mistake, it was Oxford, not Cambridge....ops. Good sensible coveage for a change, note the comments on the lightweight 'flash' featuring used by Gadget Show. silversurfer.

No problem silversurfer, they did mention Cambridge in fact as one of their branches, just the report from Oxford.

Talk about a cheek they've put the price up on the Mistral by £100.

Five of us at work have just applied for the cycle2work scheme with vouchers due next week, we're all out of the game since the £600 voucher now won't cover the cost and we were going for Mistrals.

I realise people are in this game to make a living but potentially losing 3k in sales is cutting off your nose to spite your face and a pretty poor advert for The Electric Transport Shop.

... only because the supplier put the price to us up by £120! (so we're actually making less on them now). Nothing to do with the BBC TV coverage. Just Synergie getting greedy I'm afraid.

Many Chinese products are getting dearer now, partly through the rises in commodity and fuel prices, partly through exchange rate changes. Some other e-bike and component prices have increased in recent months, and I won't be surprised to see more, though the downturn in the economy will impose some restraint in that process.
