Possibly a dumb question.

Are there any restrictions about transporting electric bikes via Eurotunnel? As in the bike being attached to a carrier on the back of a car.

Unless I have somehow missed it, I can't find any info relating to this.

I found this, ebikes are classed as bikes in both england and france so I don't see an issue.

  • I want to add bicycles / roof rack / roof box to my booking:
It is possible to add cycles to your vehicle, as long as they are attached to the car and not on a separate trailer. The only thing that you need to check is that adding them does not take the height of your vehicle over 1.85 metres. The same height restrictions apply to vehicles carrying roof racks or roof boxes. If they do make your vehicle over the 1.85m limit and you have a low space booking, you need to amend the booking to high space. There are far fewer of those and you could have a long wait if you are booked incorrectly. Providing that the travel times do not need to be amended, it does not increase the fare. If you would like assistance please call us on 08443 35 35 35.

Ebike batteries seem to give transport people the vapours, but I suppose what Euro Tunnel don't know about won't hurt them.

I mean, what's the worst that can happen?

It explodes, collapses the tunnel and kills thousands.

Eddie,
We've transported our ebikes on the back of our motorhome through the eurotunnel for the past four years - no probs, no questions, not even a second glance from Eurotunnel staff, customs, or security at either side of the Channel. They are much more worried about (a) the LPG gas bottles and (b) if you travel back in the early hours of the morning, the possibility that you're carrying illegal immigrants in the toilet compartment or the overcab Luton. :)
