Afternoon all,

I have a Carrera Kraken MTB, to which I added, about a month ago, an 8fun motor kit:

So far, I'm very happy with the result - I'm beetling off round our country lanes & trails, using low assist mainly (& medium for the steeper ups & shifting along the busier roads to get out of traffic.)

The matter I'd appreciate insight on is; I enjoy family rides out with the grandchildren in tow (literally) but gran refuses to even have a go on a bike, even though she used to ride years ago.

There's a chance of a Powabyke X6 ls, secondhand, which I'm thinking to buy for her, on the perchance she'll give it a go

AFAIK it's a 2009 model which, I think, has a brushed motor: Is that a serious disadvantage?
I believe the battery is only 4.5 or 6 ah 36v, so would the 8fun bottle battery 9ah 36v be a like-4-like replacement? I should be able to make an adaptor lead if necessary.

Being a devious beggar, I'm thinking this would give me a spare battery for longer solo excursions & the little powabyke battery would be a "get u home" if we're both out a bridge too far

The alternative is a 2nd hand Dawes sterling & give that an 8fun kit.

Pete

After my experience Jack make sure that if you buy a machine for her , choose one that you could put to use yourself , if she refuses to ride it . As a surprise 70th birthday present for my Wife I bought a Batribike Folder . It arrived on the day , was ushered in and silence .I didn`t exactly expect to be showered with kisses , but thought there might be a sliver of gratitude .All she said was ` you should have asked me first `. I was gobsmacked and after 2 years she still won`t ride it , the 33 year old German Folder does get used on occasions . Luckily I use it ! I had to do some miles before the 6 month battery guarantee ran out .
I must stop buying useful birthday presents such as the E bike , Electric Iron , digital camera and stick to perfume .

"And some fell upon stony ground" eh?

Hard lines there, roadie - that's the very reason I'm looking to keep costs reasonable - Damage Limitation :p
