Just had a Quick Look through the guidelines.

with regard to branded S/H batteries ie Giant, Bosh ECT ECT that have all the correct safety components in place I am wondering why e bay for instance have banned re sale of the these perfectly good and expensive products without any guidelines ?

How do they know of all the safety components are in place? They don't and can't know, since these companies don't release any technical information of their batteries other than the basics.

And any lithium-ion battery can fail due to a cell defect any time in its working life, so banning s/h batteries is the only truly safe option.

Labour takes drastic action against e-bikes with new criminal offence rules to help stop fatal fires

"These systems must be able to detect individual cell voltage, battery pack current, and cell temperature during both charging and discharging, according to the rules.

The protection system must prevent charging or discharging from causing over- or under-voltage of cells, over-current of the pack, and dangerous temperature variations.

Battery design and construction must also resist damage from external sources, including extreme temperatures, liquids, and normal wear and tear. Manufacturers must provide clear information about battery compatibility and safe charging practices."
