Do you live in a Cycling City ?

Featured Replies

Good news, but I wish the government had put more money into it, £100 million between 11 cities is very little. Even allowing for their smaller sizes, £9 millions each don't go far these days.

In London alone, we've spent many millions every year for 8 years now on cycling facilities, recent amounts were/are 2006/7 £24 millions; 2007/8 £37 millions; 2008/9 55 millions.

All donated freely by those nice kind motorists through their congestion charge payments. They're our friends really. :D

Oh dear,

Here in Swindon we got the booby.

Two balloons and a bag of sweets.

Never mind.

Regards

Bob

Just looked it up Bob, and the sad news is that it's because Swindon is not a city, despite the Borough Council's aspirations. The football club has it right, Swindon Town.

Never mind, pop the balloons and enjoy the sweets. :D

Milton Keynes is and has been a cycling city for more than 20 years with an excellent network of routes that criss cross the city.

MK is the fastest growing urban area in western europe and the 'Redway' network, so called because it is surfaced with red tarmac, is expanding every year, however maintainance is not always what it should be and more investment is required in that area.

Yes thanks :D

On a similar point the Bristol to Bath cycle paths future is secure as predicted here. After looking at the type of vehicles available and used elsewhere the detailed technical report came back as 'Hey those buses are big. Too big for a little old track and narrow bridges like ours'.
