In 'tidy up' stage of DIY friction conversion could a MCB of suitable current rating be used as a 'master power switch' on the battery feed to the controller? Peter

Use a mosfet switch as a much better solution all-round.
If it is DC rated then yes, but I cant see how using an MCB fits with tidying up.
OK I've read a bit more about mcb theory and practice, and it seems using an ac rated mcb (for which I have several used ones spare) is not a good idea. The issue is that the diy motor controller I am using says it should have over-current fuse protection on the battery input (36V ~8A max continuous demand). I wondered whether an mcb would kill two birds so to speak by providing switching and over-current protection. If I use a fuse what rating should it be? Thanks Peter

it would help if you told us which battery and controller you have. If it's a lithium battery with a BMS, all you need is a small switch of your choice and a soldering iron.
