Cycle Show 2008: those who came, thanks for coming!

Our return to the Cycle Show was our most successful and enjoyable exhibition yet. We had plenty of new models to show off, including the launch of a whole new brand, Univega's mountain and road bikes.
There were more electric bikes at the show than ever this year, but our visitors usually acknowledged that the Kalkhoffs were the best-looking and most promising all-rounders. After five years in the business, it's clear that the era of electrically assisted cycling is well and truly here.

They're excellent hill-climbers and can cover 30-50 miles on a single charge. Free UK delivery is included in the price. It's an amazing offer that only lasts for one week (or until we run out).

2009 Kalkhoff Tasman Pedelec Coming soon - reserve now
Call 0844 800 5979 or email to enquire about how to reserve a bike
One of the new bikes on show was the 2009 Tasman Pedelec. The Tasman was our quickest seller this year, with every single one selling out by early Summer.
Next year's model will also come with a crossbar frame option as well as the step-thru, shown above. Other changes include a Hesling fully-enclosing chainguard, a new paint job, premium Shimano 8-speed hub and new, lighter rims and lights. It's the ultimate comfort commuter electric bike. We are taking deposits on the 2009 model now, for delivery this winter. Full details of the 2009 Tasman pedelec.
New testimonials
Reports from Kalkhoff pedelec owners are now coming in almost daily. We post the best online on the owners review page. Here are some quotes from the most recent emails we've received. If you're an owner, old or new, we'd be pleased to publish your report on our website too.
"I live in Leeds and always wanted to cycle to work but was put off by the 24 mile distance and hills that make it a very difficult daily commute… that was until I took delivery of my Pro Connect in August 2008.
For the past two months I have been commuting daily to work and have now covered more than 750 miles. Not only is it good for me but I also really enjoy the time I have cycling to and from work. I am also very pleased with the endurance of the bike. As my fitness has improved so has the endurance of the bike as I am now able to select the lowest power setting for most of my journey. I have managed 48 miles from a single charge and the battery was not fully discharged. Great bike."
Geoff, Pro Connect owner

"I am Dutch by birth and it takes a lot of convincing me that a bike is good! This one is not just good, it is BRILLIANT. It is like cycling on the moon.I took it with me on an extended visit to Holland where electric bikes are big business. Never have I enjoyed my cycling more... by the way the saddle is THE most comfortable I have ever had! People in Holland admired the bike greatly for its looks and weight. I would recommend this bike to anyone and indeed we shall get one for my husband too as he cannot keep up with me now."
Annette, Agattu owner

Thanks John! If you do want to sign up, here's the news page on our website, with links to recent past emails, including the one featured here.

These Agattu discounts are of course open to the good people of pedelecs.co.uk too!

PS we're offering free UK shipping on the Yakkay helmets now too. Only Large size in stock at the moment tho, I've just been informed.

Discounted Kalkhoffs for 50c Subscribers

Trouble is - I suspect most, maybe all, subscribers already own an electric bike. Wish they would discount replacement batteries.

Hi Iain, we have people signing up for the newsletter daily, often with the promise of offers, not all of them electric bike owners.

I wish we could drop the price of batteries - we did recently, as it goes, from £305 to the present £295 - but they're just about at cost already, especially since the Euro strengthened against the dear old pound.

Exactly the same battery is about £400 from BikeTech for their Flyer bikes, and I've just noted the Heinzmann battery (at 5.2 Ah half the size) is £385, or the same size for £575. The BionX lithium battery is around £550 currently.

That makes 50cycles price for the high quality Panasonic battery something of a bargain.

What advantages does the Tasman 2009 have over the offer models.......

I may get one for the wife, and I bet I end up using it lol

Will it perform better on hills then the wisper I wonder?

The Tasman is a deluxe Agattu, using higher grade components but otherwise essentially the same performance.

All these Panasonic motored bikes handle steep hills better than hub motor bikes since the motor drives through the gears. Just like in a car, the right gear can be chosen for the climb. The motors on wheel-hub-motor bikes are effectively in the one top gear all the time, good for speed but not so good for steep climbs. However, on gentle hills the hub motor bikes like the Wisper are often a bit faster climbing them.
