Does anyone make disc brake compatible hub motors, apart from Bionx?

Yes, the eZee kit front hub motor comes in a disc brake version. Here's the UK agents:

I'm in the same boat as you & really want a front disc hub but just look at the cost :( it's ridiculous.

I am either going for front V's on my MTB with a Alien 36v kit or will wait until someone comes up with a sensible electric disc hub & not a rip off over inflated price like the Ezee or the disc Heinzmann hub @ £1200 what a joke:D.

I have emailed Alien about a disc hub because the people who make their hubs in China make a disc electric hub also.

I've seen a few compromises where by the front wheel is disc and the back wheel is electric with V brakes.

The ultimate hub would be disc and compatible with standard cassette freewheels.

Hi Skutter

We are in the throws of developing the Wisper kit for spring of next year. It is currently under test in the New Zealand mountains.

It has a lot of innovative features which we are keeping under wraps at the moment, but here is the motor with Disc brake.

It is a Japanese motor with masses of torque for very easy hill climbing.

Now this is interesting....

The new Wisper kit is using a new motor. I appreciate that there are lots of details you can't share at the moment but....

Will the motor be more free-wheeling than the current offering? At present I have ruled out anything other than a TongXin motor for this reason. What I need is a help on the hills so a 160rpm TongXin in a 700c wheel is what I am after.

It would be great to have another option. I am currently holding out to see what the forthcoming Cytronex kit has to offer but if Wisper has an offering in this space than that would be great.

Hi BM

Actually the motor we are working on now, shown in the image has a very slight drag on it. Due to its size there is no room for an internal freewheel, but on the upside there is a little regenerative charging. However the Bafang motor we are currently using on our 905 and 705 models does have an internal free wheel and is 100% free wheeling.

At the moment we are choosing between a disc brake and free wheel, we have a new motor being delivered next week that apparently has both. I will keep you posted.

All the best David
