Oh, no! What's happened to my Senior Member status? I appear to have been demoted!

Actually, looking round the forum, there seems to have been a general downgrading...

We have all been demoted. Apparently, some members didn't like other members having "Senior" or "Guru" status. It made them feel a bit insecure. So now, we are all just plain old Members.

Edit: crossed with Russ.

We did away with the 'Senior' member status. It was the forum s/w default but some felt confusing as it could be read as a referring to someone's age/length of time on the forum/number of posts etc.

Now we have New Member and Member after 30 posts.

This is good I think.....on another forum I use(motorhomes) I am an "expert" based on length of time I have been on there and number of posts (5000+:p)

Has been known to cause some upset and is unnecessary, particularly as I am an an anarcho syndicalist:confused:

Yes, definitely a good thing. Anything that might make newer members feel they have a lower status is undesirable.

Maybe we should also do away with the number of posts counter. A newer member may feel intimidated by members with several hundred, or even several thousand posts. This could have the effect of making them feel that their post lacks credibility due to their low activity count.

Whilst we are at it, we could also remove the member's name to prevent reputations or individual credibility playing any part.

Personally, I liked being a Senior Pedelec Member. My family, friends and work colleagues treated me with respect when I was a Senior Member and this made me feel like a somebody. Since being demoted, people have shunned me and some even treat me like dirt. Recently, my dog has started pi$$ing in my slippers and I suspect that this may be surreptitious disrespectful slant connected with my demotion.

I wouldn't mind that. Major reasons for the high number of my posts is that I've been in the forum longer then anyone else and I'm retired so have more spare time than many. Neither of those is any reason for status.

I'm not knocking it flecc, I think it is a good thing to have the post counter, user name and status markers. I know some people don't like it and have said so, but do they speak for the majority of forum users?

For me, the post counter and to some extent the status thing, played a very very small but useful part in forming an opinion on who was advising me. On an internet forum, we have very little to go on when making an assessment of the worth of someones advice. Little pieces of evidence such as length of membership, number of posts, status, the type of language used, other peoples reactions to an individual's posts all help with deciding how much notice to take of any advice given. You can learn a lot from these subtle pieces of information.

Bring back the Status marker!

I don't mind if members want it and it returns, but I don't want Guru back, too much like wearing a bullseye target on my chest. It's been far more peaceful since I lost it.
