To those who know about cats he is a rarity and genetic freak of nature.
Though he is just a short haired moggy, the White on him gives him away as not just a Tortoiseshell but one with a big difference he is referred to as a Calico coloured cat or tricolour. Torties are bi colour and have no White.
The rarity is 99.99% of Calico's are born as female and boys only make up 0.01% of the colour born, genetically cats have a XX chromosomes female or XY male and are either bicolour or one solid colour or females can be tricolour.
For a male to be tricolour he has to have a genetic change and has an extra X chromosome making his make up XXY. As a male Calico he is or should be born sterile, though he will have to be surgically neutered to prevent spraying /marking in the house.
