Dawes Diploma - nice basis for a conversion

I really like the look of the older style 'classic' bikes and even though I'm delighted with my GT this Dawes bike with a front hub would make a lovely ebike especially with some stealth like canvas panniers and some nice chrome lights, £200 + a kit?

Yes, with a moderate size rack battery, panniers hiding that and a quiet front hub motor it would make a well balanced and quite stealthy utility e-bike.
