I have a cyclomatic - when the battery runs out it becomes very difficult to cycle because of what appears to be brake resistance. Is it normal? Surely I should be able to ride the the cyclomatic as a normal bicycle if the battery has run down or is switched off? Grateful for any thoughts!

The wheel should spin very freely when you lift it off the ground and spin it by hand. If it doesn't, you should be able to figure out what's stopping it. If it's the brake, this might help:

I can hardly pedal my Cyclamatic at all when the battery is flat because of the motor drag.
I disconnected the rear brake and it is definately the motor.
A fitter person might manage better of course.
