Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this (perhaps we need a dedicated forum now for CycleCharge discussions since it's been 100% funded by members...Russell hint hint)..

I've started carrying out some updates to the site over the weekend and just wanted to let people know.. I've fixed the registration problem so new Charge Points can be added again.

Charge Points now have their own dedicated pages/portal areas which can be viewed by clicking on the Charge Point name from the directory pages or just entering your Charge Point ID number in the following format:

Sunnyhills of Belford | North East

This is our latest Charge Point, SunnyHills farm at Belford, Northumberland (actually belongs to Funkylyn's sister).

The page is quite basic at the moment and I plan to do a lot more with it, but at least for now it provides all the relevant info and a map.

Charge Points can add photos to their page by just using the edit feature (click on MyProfile) after logging in, and then paste in a URL to a photo that measures 500 x 375 pixels). Sorry about the size constraint but it's necessary so you may have to resize or crop your image. If you need a way to host your images, try imgur.com or similar free services. Later on, I'll code an upload feature that automatically resizes images, but I don't have time at the moment.

Next I will add sponsorship ads along the bottom of the Charge Point page, and then a feature for visiting members to leave comments on page.

Oh and finally, I think a lot of members who registered haven't had their membership cards. If you want to request one you can at the following link:

CycleCharge - Project - Membership

Only request one if you plan to use charge points, else it will just create extra work and we're short staffed ;-)

Well that's all for now guys, except to say that we're planning a meeting (online) soon, maybe later in the week or next weekend, to discuss our plans for the next few months. Further promotion is planned and some letter writing/e-mailing to charities, government departments, newspapers, magazines etc. If anyone wants to attend the meeting or help in any way, feel free.

You can post your suggestions or ideas here too of course.

Once my Mezzo bike conversion is finished I will be out leafleting around Worcestershire, weather permitting ;-)

Oh and the next big challenge is to make a mobile-friendly version of the site, particularly the directory and mapping feature (which needs improving).... any android app coders or mobile-device coders lurking here want to volunteer?

I noticed there's a good Android app for cycles already well established though for finding routes and planning journeys (Bike Hub) so it's entirely possible we might be able to get our points on their app, assuming they're not adverse to working with e-bike owners ;-) No use reinventing the wheel. There's also another site/app cyclestreets we could try.

Great work Paul...its looking really good and working well.

Be nice to get some feedback and suggestions from members on here ......and not forgetting .....more Chargepoints !

I intend getting out more next year with the CC stand to as many bike meets as I can to raise our profile some more......and, when it stops raining.......get more chargepoints enlisted too.

Lynda :)

I saw some severe flooding down your way in Devon, over 800 homes flooded.

Perhaps over the winter we can do indoor promotions, like I mentioned contacting any helpful orgs and magazines and what not.

I feel so sorry for those people badly affected....its actually getting quite frightening......and I hope it doesnt then turn to snow in 2 weeks when I will be driving down to Spain.....

Great work morphix.

In case you don't know, there's an error on the Charging page (on latest FF, OS X 10.6.8):

They simply \91plug in\92 to a normal household 3 pin main socket.

Just to clarify about the images/photos for Charge Points I posted earlier...

You don't need to actually resize/crop your images to paste the URL into the photo box on your Charge Point profile, as the website will automatically "downsize" or "scale up" the image to the dimensions I mentioned above.. However if your photo doesn't look right and has a stretched appearance, you will need to crop it or resize it to the correct dimensions then upload it again.

Password and login problems...

Because it's been a while since some users have logged in and they may have forgot their login details, you can retrieve these to your registered e-mail address from this URL:

CycleCharge - Login

If you've changed your e-mail address, please contact for us to update your e-mail address. Probably using e-mail is better via the site rather than messaging on here, as the mailbox fills up quite quickly. Likewise, if you have a filtering problem and can't get a password reminder e-mail, just send a request for your password.

Yes Mel, sorry I got your e-mail y'day but had an unexpected trip to hospital so didn't get much done except sleep by the time I got home!

Thanks for the heads up on the server error, looks like it was due to recent ISP change and mail server settings needed updating.. should be fine now if you want to give it a try.

CycleCharge meeting planned - Sunday 4pm

If anyone is interested, there's an online chat meeting being held tomorrow afternoon at 4pm to discuss plans for the CycleCharge project next year..anyone from the forum is welcome to take part and offer suggestions, or just sit in and watch.

It's not a formal meeting or anything and is just an opportunity to float some ideas for things like improving the website (particularly how we might best support mobile devices), signing up more new charge points, raising awareness of the project through the media, forging links with charities and cycling-supportive orgs, that sort of thing.

The meeting will be on IRC (good old fashioned Internet Relay Chat) and there will be a link to the chatroom on the URL below closer to the time, (you won't need to install any IRC software, the java IRC client-applet will run on most browsers.).

More info (and chatroom link to follow) here:
