The top one looks like The Netherlands, 30kph for cars using cyclepath access to their homes.

Very nice, we could have the same if 70% of the population routinely cycled as the Dutch do. Here it's miserable 3%.

Chickens and eggs. There is plenty of evidence that many more people would like to cycle to work and such, but are put off by the perceived dangers.

I fully agree John, but it would be a very brave government that spent billions on such facilities for 3% at the severe disadvantage of the 70% plus who drive.

That 3% has to increase first.

In London where the proportion cycle commuting is now much higher we are beginning to get separated facilities. Now that Buckingham Palace has buckled and dropped their objections to it's passing in front, the longest segregated cycle route in Europe is under construction.

Yes let's hope london proves a fruitful testbed. I must say that it looks like just a lick of paint on the top photo (or coloured tarmac). Mightnt cost a fortune when surface next due for renewal. The below photo just shows how not to do it. Real stupidity.

Brand spanking new bike infrastructure in Bradford gets it horribly wrong. Even Chris Boardman weighed in as to how stupid this is and not what was on the original plans, CityConnect interpreted the plans whilst the building was going on (to favour motorists). The original plan had a raised bikeway that had priority over all small side roads, so motorists had to give way to oncoming cyclists. That became this. The raised bikeway was dropped at every junction and cyclist have to give way in all directions at every junction.
