Cube Kathmandu

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone!

I have recently purchased a Cube Kathmandu 625 EXC 2021 model but have ridden it only a little due to the recent weather. Yesterday I went out for a first half-decent ride (13.5 miles), most of it into a strong headwind. Delighted with the bike overall; only query is that over 15mph (i.e. no motor assistance) with the wind behind, I was pedalling gently on the flat and felt (and heard) quite noticeable backlash on the crank from both pedals at the start of each downstroke. Disappeared when I pedalled harder (which I didn't want to do!). On arrival back in my town, I tried pedalling at lower speeds in lower gears with the motor in the Off position; the same thing happened. No backlash/clunking felt when I pedalled harder, or when the motor was assisting.

Is this normal for an eBike? Is this normal for a Cube?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Our older Raleigh Motus (older Bosch Active Line) is similar. My guess is that if you apply almost no torque the torque sensor disengages in some way. On a weak stroke it may be disengaged for the very weak top/bottom of the stroke, and engage for the slightly harder down stroke. When pedalling harder it remains engaged all the time. Doesn't seem to be a problem; looks as if you've found that too.
