January 14, 201610 yr It seems there may be a growing anti-cyclist movement, perhaps, though not necessarily, limited to the capital. I was just about to throw out some old newspapers when I noticed this article which, though I'm sure many of you have read, I missed. On the basis that many drivers are pretty p'd off about the money being spent on cycling superhighways and various other cycling initiatives in London, causing arguably more problems than they solve and perceived by many to be to the detriment of vehicular traffic, I'm sure the beginnings of a crackdown are there to see. The unfortunate part of this for those who ride electrically-assisted machines is that if plod acquires a greater awareness than at present, (which they will), of all things bicycle-connected, then that attention drawn to cyclists generally because of the moronic element may ensnare some of those riding non-compliant ebikes/unregistered motorcycles or whatever the illegal things are called. While I have zero sympathy with those criminals who know the EAPC regulations but very deliberately choose to break them, I'm afraid any unlucky enough to face prosecution can only blame those equally criminal cyclists who choose to break other laws. If I may, that would be "delinquent" not criminal. We have left the days when you (England) deported starving children to Australia because they had stolen an apple or a loaf of bread far behind us now. Criminal cyclists are the ones who run down little old ladies or babies in prams... Sorry but I thought your interesting post was lacking in perspective to the gravity of the committed offences.
January 14, 201610 yr Oh and PS the reckless ones over here are all dressed in tights and many of them don't even speak French...
