Hi guys I'm new to the forum. I work as a bicycle courier and have just recently has my carrera crossfire 1 stolen :(. I am looking to invest in something new, and everyone seems to say good things about electric bikes. I'm about 6"5 but only weigh like 12 stone. Any suggestions on wether it's a good idea?

Main problem is likely to be that you won't get a full day's work from an e-bike. Two hours running is commonly possible, but few get to four hours using the motor from their battery.

You could aim for something light with a free running system, only using power for hills which could eke out the battery content.

It helps you get to 15 mph at the traffic light drag strip. then it's dead weight.
It's also handy up hills, but your not old and fat with so many hills so not as needed as we do.
Range is the killer for you not many will do 50 miles of stop start running.
The GTech is worth a test ride, light and simple. It has a very small battery so range is challenged.
And halifrauds have a sale on there e carrera @£800. Even less for a British cycle member.

Seeing as you're already working as a cycle courier, i would have thought you're quite a fit cyclist.
Using an Ebike for your job could be more of a hindrance than a help. You have to weigh up the downsides of using an Ebike. They're heavy, more things to go wrong, limited range of batteries and recharging time.
If i were young enough and fit enough to work as a cycle courier, i would want the simplicity of a unassisted bicycle. I would just buy one of decent quality and lightweight.

Cheers guys. I think I'm gonna go for one of the boardman hybrids or is there anything you can suggest that's super lightweight with solid performance? Would a road bike be better? I only do 10-15 miles a day though, most of the job is just standing around. Price range is like £600.

You could expand your business to delivery with a cargo bike.

In your work as a courier I would probably go for a hybrid, no suspension, and hub gears.
I noticed this on HotUKDeals the other day. Has Nexus 8 speed, may or may not suit you...... only goes up to a size large though, you might want a XL being 6'5", but its certainly a good deal at £299.

You are thinking like me what a great bike to host a mid-drive kit?

I dont think the OP needs an electric bike...... But i do think kits are where the smart money goes, due to a lot of ready made Ebikes being so overpriced.
If Cytronex were to fit that bike with one of their cheap ass front hub motor kits, that probably only costs them a couple of hundred quid, they would be asking £2K for that Marin.
