Hi All.How do you work out the size of controller you need.I need a new one for a trike, 24 volt 4 batteries 380 motor, what ampage controller will i need. thanks for any help given. John
Hello John
If the bike is 24 Volts then at 16 Amps that would be 384 Watts, so a 16 Amp controller would be the minimum.
Is the 380 Watts figure the peak power or the continuous rating? If it's the continuous rating then the peak power would be much higher and you may need something like a 30 Amp controller to cope.
Of course the batteries would need to be able to put out enough power too so you would have to take this into account when sizing the controller.
The controller would also need to be matched to the type of motor, i.e. brushed or brushless.
I'm sure others will add to the list of things you need to consider.
