Controller question

Hi everyone, new to the site, new to ebike as well.

I've been given a rear wheel 1000w 48v reasejoy motor with all the parts required to fit it, and I've ordered a battery for the bike now also.

But I have one quick question regarding the controller. Can I swap this controller out for another one to enable me to get an Lcd screen? Is it as simple as that? Obviously I'd need to match like for like, but can I use any 1000w controller and it will do the same job?

Sorry if this seems a bit of a silly question, but I've been reading about the forum regarding others swapping controllers and couldn't come up with a definitive answer.

If someone could advise me if what I'd need to take into consideration when buying, or better yet point me in the right direction for any UK suppliers that would assist me.

If you have already ordered a battery, you will have to match the controller to the spec of that. Normally you would match the battery to the controller. Do you have a link to the battery you ordered?

You need to tell us whether the motor has hall sensors. If it is, you can use any controller for sensored motors. If not, your choice will be more limited.

The best controllers are KT because you can adjust the power. A 12 mosfet one of around 25 to 30 amps should give enough power. You need at least 5 amps of headroom on your battery, so, if you get a 30 amp controller, you need a battery that can provide at least 35 amps continuous. Here we're talking about a high discharge rate battery, not the common cheap ones you find on Ebay. If you buy a cheap battery, it won't last 5 minutes.

I've just seen on the listing of that battery that it says maximum protection current 30 amps. That's the current at which it switches off. The continuous running current isn't specified, neither are the type of cells. In that case, the maximum current controller you can use is difficult to say. You might get away with a 25 amp one. A 22 amp one would be a safer bet, but the motor really needs more current than that to be efficient.

Have a look at the label on your controller. if it says 30 amps or more, you're definitely going to need a different battery or controller.

Sorry the battery is the 17.5 ah. Not 20

Looking at the controller there isn't any info on it apart from LY48v1000w, so from what I can gather from what you guys have said is if I buy a new controller to suit at 25a I should be good?

Hello.
Could you tell me where I can purchase a LY48V1000W controller like yours please?
Stay safe.
Many thanks.
