From other discussion on this forum I understand you can't mix/match controllers and LCDs so my question is, how is one to know what controllers will work with what LCD!?

I'm new to ebikes and am trying my best to learn things by spending excess amounts of money figuring out the nuances that aren't obvious.

I have an s-866 controller with an error 10 code. I believe this is to do with the controller I bought from Cyclotrocity and incompatibility. My pedal assist is not working too which may play a part in why I've encountered to error so any insight there might be good too!

One is best to buy a mathcing pair unless the name of the brand/maker of the controller is known.

Show us pics of the controller not the display.
Cyclotricity did use KT stuff but they were custom models with extra functions that standard KT stuff don't use.

Thanks for getting back!! Attached image.

It's all a bit messy imo but I'm learning. It'd be nice if there were standards that are shown when purchasing this stuff that you can have confidence in what connects with what.

The controller is KT so the s866 is incompatible hence the error 10.
What wattage motor is used with that Kt is 250w or one the dual watt motors ?

Thank you for getting back to me. It's a 250 watt motor.

Direction on what controller would be compatible would be great!

I have a 250w front cyclotricity kit (xf07 clone) bought from ebike direct (who advertised on this site) back in 2018. It came with a kt controller and throttle and a special plug that shorted the red/blue wires instead of the display. The display and pas is a rather expensive upgrade as in link below.
The older controller may work to the kt890 display or there are reports that they will work with the LCD3 (possibly set to older protocol (c8=1) but with an irreversible loss of the road/off road power feature (that only applied with the bigger motors) but I can not say this for sure.

I think if you want ot use the s866 one has to look for Brainpower brand controller on ebay.
If you want to use the KT controller then you need a KT lcd 3,4 ,5, 6,7,8,9 10,11 or 12.

Thank you. I'm not set on using this LCD (it's the cheaper of the two and the controller works with the rest of the system) so i'll look to get an LCD.

Thanks for the info. This is one that I found and is the same one Cyclotricity sell. I'm in an ordeal with them at the moment so resent handing them my money (and so much of it) so was looking for a cheaper alternative. I might have to bite the bullet.

So good news! I have LCD-5 and all is working except PAS. MY LCD reads my speed, shows when I’m using the throttle and activated the cruise feature. just doesn’t detect PAS. the PAS is a KT-D12L and lights up as I rotate. Maybe a dud? Are there “hidden” settings on the LCD5 that’s not immediately available?

C1 setting might be wrong, should be one of three 00 - 02.

Hmm, thanks for this but tried doing 00, 01 and 02. No luck. Any other thoughts? I'm gonna try flipping the magnet disc around but that's pretty much all I can think of.

Could be wrong polarity of the magnets, simply turn th cranks a/c/w to see if the PAS activates.

Is the wiring sequence correct at the connection ?

Thanks for sticking with me!! I really appreciate this.

turning anti-clockwise did nothing. They are all the “waterproof” plugs so wiring shouldn’t be an issue.

A note, unlmess I’m going psycho, im managed to trigger it with my hand spinning the disc. Maybe there’s some magnet count, ratio or speed I’m able to achieve only with my hand that’s triggering it?!

it’d be great to get a snapshot of someone’s settings but I’m guessing a similar setup is unlikely. P1& P2 settings for instance are beyond me!

P2 is simple, it is the number of motor or spoke pick up magnets for sensing usually 1 or for some hubs 6.
P1 is a bit more trickier to understand, the figure to input will give a odo readout with the display set to a certain speed. The P1 value is motor winding magnets X the hub internal gear ratio, these are usually a known factor of the motor specs..
So for setting up simply set the display speed setting to 25km/h and check the read out with a gps, if the reading is low one increases P1 and if high lowers P1.

It depends which hub you have;
If geared try P1 84 to start with.
If a DD hub the P1 is 46.

Try all the other C1 settingd to see if it makes any difference.
I did have a 12 pole disc and my kt refused to work with it, a 10 pole one worked perfect with 01 setting.

My current disc has a 12 magnets on it. I'm struggling to find a 10 pole with a waterproof connector. Have you had any luck with 8 magnets?

With P1, would this have any bearing on the PAS not working or is it more for optimising the stats on the LCD?

I tried looking for tech specs on user manual. Very little info:
Motor type: High speed brushless geared hub motor
Motor power: 250W/500w/1000w
Motor voltage: 36V/48V

.

P1 shouldn't have much to do with PAS but a widely incorrect value can affect motor running and speed.

8 or 10 will work, I don't know why but some 12 poles just don't work correctly with KT so after one failure I have never bothered again.

The common julet 10 pole PAS is the BZ10c but this is for exterior bearing BB's like Hollowtech 11
