I would like two sets (4) of interchangeable wheels.

I am not a great tinkerer so will find the fourth Tektro disk and then hope it all lines up!

Still waiting for the magnet for the speed sensor as well, there's always something.

I just wanted another set of easy to fit tyres, is that toooo much to ask.

The answer is I need to buy another bike for the road, Chris and I were chatting about this.

I am going to try to get another set of rims to fit my bike, ( note to anyone else wanting to do the same, wait for me to succeed or fail, I am a bit on the fail side at the moment as it is a money pit with no up side, so far) oh yes I am going to succeed, really.

To save me buying another ebicycle for the road !!!

I really wanted to be able to do hard core with Chris (using Mary's ) and also change to hybrid Marathon Plus MTB or Smart Sams and ride a bit of road and some off road with out the constant ar$e ache of changing tyres.

I will continue to try with a second set of rims as I am committed but I can not be the first rider to want both from the same machine ???

you need balls and dont use the brakes if you dont crash you are not going fast enough.

I am finally 50% of the way there. One tube one tubeless. The HD is so tight it inflated with my normal tyre pump.

If anyone else fancies a second set of wheels to make things easy DON'T, buy a second bike, nothing fits!

It has taken me ages to get everything together. Adjust this, change that, get another of those.

It was too nice this afternoon to take the Mary off the front so went with what I had for a nice trip out in the sun.

The HD is a good off road tyre, but a PITA just like the Mary to fit.

Had to try a bit of off road once I was sure the brakes worked and the wheel was not going to fall off and the speed sensor was fitted and the brakes realigned and the sqewers tight ( sorry to keep going on about it being a PITA ).

SG Magic Mary or Hans Dampf, no easy way to fit at all.

Watched the video on fitting difficult tyres by pushing the tyre into the well of the rim to make fitting sooo easy. In reality once you have the one side in there is no room in the well for the other side, another urban myth.

Specialist tool I hear you say ?

For anyone interested the tool does not come in two parts, but ends up that way after trying to fit a HD ? I did say Money pit.



So back to a great big screwdriver wrapped in tape and just heave again.

I used baby powder to lubricate the tyre rather than fairy liquid as I thought it might contaminate the slime? Read the sealant instructions and found nothing about lubrication.

So building up courage to remove the Mary and refit on my front rim.

In all seriousness if I had a broken glass or ring pull cut puncture there is absolutely no way you would ever remove the tyre to effect a repair in the field.

To put the slime in I used a big syringe on the valve once the tyre was fitted and it worked well. If I had put it in the bottom of the open tyre before fitting there would be none in the tyre but plenty on me and the floor at the end.

I am not looking forward to removing and then refitting the Mary at all.

And bloody yes there are nasty scratches on my new rims..... self inflicted !

man that is some huge scratches get a permanent marker pen n fill them in then you wont see them

maybe take the tyre and rim to halfords hand over 5 quid and make them suffer pmsl

then bet them if they cant fit it in 30mins its free or if they can extra 5 quid

This is putting me off Magic Mary's. I need to be able to get tyres off and on and the Nobby Nics are so easy to remove/replace that I don't need a tyre lever.

The Mary was a lot easier to get back on than when new, no fairy liquid but a big screw driver taped up. So it can be done, maybe the Kevlar ones loosen up after a bit.

Had to roll the wheel and tube a bit to coax it to blow up with the foot pump but managed it easily enough without too much stress or mess. Went out for a ride to just check nothing fell off, ran the Mary with 40 psi in all seemed well. Still to reduce the pressure right down for proper TL riding.

Next is the decision of what to put on the original rims ?

you still need a fox front shock and some blue peddles and blue grips to finish it off

SW, that's about as useful as a G string on an Elephants bum.

My nephew thinks the new wheels look sick! It means 'very nice' in laymans terms. I agree.

Sounds like a regular ride on the South Downs.

Finally, it has taken weeks.

But I do now have two sets of rims and tyres for my bike. A set of road tyres on the old rims (Smart Sam Plus) and the new rims for off road ( Magic Mary on the front and a Hans Dampf on the rear ).

They do easily swap over and the brakes are good, the magnetic sensors and the skewers both line up, the gears are the same and change perfectly.

So now I can ride on the road in relative peace with the Smart Sams. The HD on the rear sounds like there is a car always behind you and the MM on the front makes such a roar that you do not need a bell to warn walkers.

When you are off road I have great confidence in the MM and HD, you can steer out of the side of a muddy rut and push on up a rough muddy bridal path steering from one side to another looking for the best path without having to stop.

Through necessity rather than choice the off road tyres are tubeless and the on road are tube tyres.
