Would someone put that lot into plain English,i get concerned when an advert mentions 'pledge'.....is it a con? Is it a pyramid selling scheme?....KudosDave
I'm surprised you are not familiar with crowd funding investments as featured on the likes of Kickstarter.

All pledge means is you don't put any money in until the target is reached.

The rest is self-explanatory, you get what the proposal says you will get.

Investment is something of a misnomer in that you often don't get equity, you are just pre-ordering a version of the product.

Crowd funding is a legitimate way of getting the money to develop and build a run of prototypes.

it's not a con. It's the most respected of the crowd funding sources.
You back a project because you want it succeed, it's not an alternative to buy something on the cheap. The gear that you may receive may not be the commercial production. There is no guarantee that you'll get your money back if you are not happy with the gear you receive.

Fascinating.
If it's such a good idea why does it need crowd input? Surely you could fund it yourself?
What happens if the target is not reached ?

Trex, you say it is respected, who respects it?
I must say that the rest of your posting would do nothing to sell the concept,if you risk money you don't get it cheap ,if you are a pioneer the product may be rubbish and there is no guarantee that you will receive it at all,if the product is a success you gain nothing for your investment....is that a fair analysis of the offer?
It just shows how many mugs there are in the world, I had to check the date that it wasn't a sophisticated April fools joke!!!!!!

For the developers, it's free advertising if they fail, cheap capital (kickstarter takes only 5% commission compared to typically 7% for one year bonds) if they succeed.
What is in it for the backers? not much other than the satisfaction of seeing progress being made.
if you check the statistics, you will be amazed at the funding success rate. Many millions of early adopters back these projects, a lot of them ended up with delay while the developers sort out problems during their development (like the Copenhagen Wheel project).
For the rest of us, a chance to see which way the technology is moving.
The COBI design is so good that they have exceeded their goal in less than a week.

Hey guys,

I just saw your forum and your discussion about COBI. Just want to let you know that I'm here if you've got any questions about our system.

By the way, a lot changed since our kickstarter campaign.

Having been on the website, very difficult to understand how that system integrates with ebikes (Bosch system only)...

Technically it's very easy. You just take off the Bosch board computer and put on the COBI HUB – That's all. The functionality of your ebike won't change.

More eBike systems will definitely follow.
If you want to receive a notification via email as soon as we are supporting your system – just sign in here or subscribe our newsletter.

Do you have plans to support Kalkhoff's impulse 2 bikes also?

Hi Michael, I've been in touch with you guys previous to see if there was a way of making an interface between generic e-bikes and the cobi system. I haven't forgotten about it, just been awaiting my canbus dev kit so i can decipher the incoming and outgoing commands.
