When ordering a new chain ring for my Bafang BBS02, I noticed that it says it is CNC milled/machined.

Being an inquisitive chap, and knowing nothing about machining processes, I decided to find out more info.

This may sound quite sad, but I found it fascinating to watch how the whole process is carried out :D

Not only do I marvel at the milling process, I marvel at the skill and technical ability of those who design and build the machines! I still have a problem drilling a straight hole with the drill in a stand :(

You can see why all the effort goes into 3D printing design.

Yes, those people are incredibly skilled.

Many moons ago, when I earned my crust in engineering, I worked alongside men from the whole gamut of engineering skills and the guys who really impressed me most were the toolmakers and the millwrights. I'm afraid thanks to the cynical destruction of our once huge engineering industry by the tories, those skills are largely lost these days in the UK.

Needless to say, the same skills are still found in abundance in Germany, Japan and those other countries which profited from that tory folly.

I completely agree, how can we ever recover and become world leaders again.
