is it just me or do all chocolates taste the same these days. I recently bought a box of Milk tray for my wife and we ended up throwing them in the bin. They all tasted just of a sweet sickly mush. Just tried some Lindor and they are exactly the same. Just a sweet mushy gloop. I do not eat a lot of chocolates, but do like some with a bit of flavour. Where have all the coffee creams orange creams and the lovely caramels gone. I think as well that since Kraft took over Cadburys the quality has definitely gone down. So is it just me or have my tastes changed as I get older

Maybe you're eating too many As a Cadbury's Milk lover I'm being won over to Lindt (recent birthday!).

It's a widespread complaint Gray, one which was covered in a BBC radio program a short while ago. Apparently Kraft have insisted on the adoption of the sweet American chocolate recipe to facilitate interchange of production and refuse to listen to complaints. The Americans have never known how to make sweets, candies as they call them, and American kids are the best judges of that, always raving about the superiority of our sweets when over here.

The only answer is to stop buying Cadburys as I and many others have done. Where boxes of chocolates are concerned, try Thorntons instead, their ranges cover most tastes. And there's a large range of alternatives in bars of chocolates, though I found Galaxy to be as sickly as today's Cadburys.

I'd read about Hershey bars (Stephen King ?) in American literature but had never tried them. Some years ago my brother went on holiday to the US and brought me back some; after trying them, never again! The Americans have no idea about chocolate.

The Basques make real chocolate, none of your sugar laden milky goop. Yes I grew up with Cadbury's but since my first trip to Switzerland I became very picky. And now I live in the thick of it. There are however two categories of chocolate here - sugary stuff for Spanish tourists and the above mentioned good stuff.

I have. The chocolate maker who is 50 metres down the street does all kinds from Kenya to Peru. The difference in bean taste is quite extraordinary.

Everyone has their own idea about chocolate, the Belgians also claim to be the best.

It's the same as e-bikes, what suits each individual most is the best.

I find that I prefer Also and Lidl chocolate now.Not as sweet as the big brands and the whole nut actually contains a lot more nuts. Thornton's are not too bad but again the lack of distinct flavours is noticeable

The whole of the Co-op range is also Fair Trade and they have lovely, bitter, high Cocoa content bars in modest, restrained sizes. Which reminds me, I must just nip to the Co-op for something...

"Pralins" which date from the very recent 1850's.

Hubby's mum was Austrian and we used to get chocolates sent from Vienna. Every one of them was full of some kinds of truffle stuff, horrible soft gooey and sweet. They never managed to put nuts or fruit inside them.
Nowadays, sad to say, most chocolate, wherever it's origin is full of truffle rather than anything recognizable.
Saying that I'm not a great chocolate fan.

Lancslass, that gooey mush seems to be all that's in chocolates now. Very sickly and cloying

I wonder if this is the reason I buy The Grauniad from the Co-op every day? The journey home gives me time to eat a few squares ... and it's Fair Trade ... and the exercise is good for me ... must cancel out the calories ... must do.

There is something odd about Hershey bars, although I remember cadging them from the Yank soldiers as a kid.
I think Hershey invented some way of using milk that was past its sell by but not yet sour.
