Lidl have some special offers starting Monday which include panniers and a few other bike bits. Probably not the best quality, but prices are reasonable.

The quality might suprise you - I bought my motorcycle boots from them for £12.99 and they are far and away the toughest and most comfortable bike boots I've ever owned - much better than the pair of £80 Dainesse boots I had before them.

Those panniers are certainly cheap - they cost less than half what I paid for mine. Rats!

a lot of the stuff they sell is poor quality but simple...dont buy it !!!...just buy the good stuff, i saw them panniers in my local leaflet and for that price i will try and get one as like the idea of the rucksack attached......however the problem we find here is that the leaflets offer great items but very rare is it that the shops here stock the products  ...a ploy to get you through the door i find.....they do some odd ranges for what started as a food shop, one week the entire leaflet was to do with horse riding gear...

SJS panniers

Speaking of cheap panniers. I bought some from SJS on ebay. I thought they were good value a first but they soon fell apart. I now have some Axiom Cartier ones which are much better.

They do stock the good stuff - but not for long. You have to be in the doors first thing on the Monday that the offer starts if you're after something in particular.

We've had a couple of dodgy "bargains" from them, but we've had some corking buys as well. We got a terrific wheel brace for under a fiver and a perfectly accurate set of digital kitchen scales for next to nothing just to name two. You've got to sort the wheat from the chaff though - some of it is cheap tat.

i too bought my first set of panniers off SJS on e-bay, yes they where cheap too, dont know if they would fall apart as they dont fit so not able to use... ....bought a set of "basil" panniers which although not as big as the ones Flecc has got on his Quando, they are very soldly made, waterproof, unless submerged.:p ........and was a reasonable price.....if i can get to the doors in time on monday and they actually stock what they say i will definatly check out the sturdyness of these panniers with rucksack attached, if not good value in that they look like they will last at least a year i will look elsewhere....i have spent a lifetime of getting "bargains".....nothing more then false economy..

Got my panniers from 50 cycles in November and one side has already started to fall apart. Nearly 40 quid! I'm going to look at getting some rigid plastic ones.

Cheers Keith

I was thinking more of the ones that are full plastic construction but these do look far more robust tha my current ones

the plastic ones may crack upon impact, these are like very thick canvas (well not canvas but like/sort of) and have a stifferner on the inner too....
but horses for courses

Hi Keith

its the stiffener in mine that is causing the problems as it has come through the material it was enclosed in and is now slowly turning the rest to tatters:) the material in yours does look much thicker than in mine though.

My Dutch Mirage ones, similar to Keith's, are a year old now and carry heavy loads at least 2/3 times a week, shopping, recycling stuff etc, but still look like new. No trouble with the stiffeners coming through, the canvas is very thick and strong. The usual panniers on the British market seem to use much thinner materials.

Yup. It's debatable which is the shorter in e-biking, li-ion battery life or customer patience. :D

Bargains or not?

I think you do often get what you pay for but there are some bargains to be had out there but you just gotta find them :)
It's a bit like clothes shopping really? I buy clothes in Primark (dirt cheap) and Next or River Island (dead expensive), products from both are good but I guess it depends on what you are after?
I haven't got panniers yet but do want some for when I do some serious shopping :) However I have a large Altura rack bag which is waterproof and has moved from my Powerbyke of 3 years to my SE of 3 months and is sturdy and kept it's shape and looks but was quite expensive, about £35.00? I think?
It is big enough to carry a case of 12 beers! so that is a bonus :D :D
Happy Shopping
