Charging in situ ?

Any reasons why battery shouldn't be charged in situ ?? ( Haibike Hardseven Yamaha 400wh battery)

Whoever did all maths on electric mountain bikes got their sums right. Could not be mire impressed with mine. Absolutely brilliant.
Have a route in Pyrenees ( work brings me here 5 months a year). It climbs from village ( Laroque Des Alberes) half way up Pico Neulos. (1254 m, I go about half way up) Path is well worn, wide enough for Landrover to get up but is strewn with boulders, rocks and marbles with very steep sections. In eight years of trying I,ve never cleaned it..Normally 75% riding and rest pushing, looking forward to descent on longer smoother path..
Cleaned it for first time on Hardseven, came down and rode reverse route..still 28 % in battery..
If anyone is considering emtb, just get one..Wish I had 5 years ago...

We charge our bikes in situ. Clever Hubby has made a 'charging trolley' which sits beside the bikes. Much easier than removing the two batteries.

I nearly always remove the battery before charging.

First reason being that I like to know that the connecting block at the base is free from moisture after a ride, and the second reason being that I always remove the battery after a ride, as in the event of the bike ever being stolen, I see no reason to make the life of the thief easier, by leaving it on. If I have removed it, then I might just as well charge it away from the bike.

Individual circumstances Eddie.
We are fair weather riders and water rarely gets near our bikes (unlike you who rides most of the time through mud!). Our bikes are in a locked garage in a decent location and exit is barred by a locked car as well. I guess you have to weigh these things up and decide which works for you. But technically there is no reason not to charge in situ which I guess is what the OP was asking.
