hello all
did a few short trips from fully charged 11.75 miles, 4 leds out of 4 when stationary, but modest short hill down to one led when climbing.
last week 19 miles covered very slight slope it dropped to one led and the led was blinking so charged up but forgot it was on charge maybe on charge about 6.5hours.

today plugged in charger and it shows green light (but ive done 11 miles) so battery must be partly depleted

not had this before any ideas on the cause?

On most chargers, the green light comes on when no current is flowing into the battery. It could be a blown fuse, or a poor connection to the battery. If not obvious you will need to get a meter on it.

Plug the charger into the battery, but don't plug it into the mains. Does the green light come on like that? If so, you can't tell if it's fully charged by the green light. My guess is that it;s not charging.

First step is to measure the voltage at the battery's charge socket and on the charger's jack.

0v means wire broken or fuse blown.
31v to 40v is probably a defective battery unless the charger's voltage is 0v. 15v to 25v means that the BMS has switched off the charging due to a detected fault.

thank you both for replies,
bit of a false alarm I use charger with extention lead which was not fully inserted into mains socket so charged up ok.
what I cannot see is how I measure the voltage at the charge socket on battery?

I do not know if the male pin is pos or neg and is there a danger of shorting out the battery if the probes of multi meter touch?

i could not find any info on what the charger lead connector type is actually called, seen it on athread someware on pedelecs.

The XLR connectors are commonly used on chargers. If not that tyep, can you post a photo of your charger connector for us to identify it.

The easiest way to measure the voltage on the charge socket of the battery is to get a spare charger jack from Maplin. You can then plug it in and put your probes on the connection points without danger of shorting.

If you have a 3-pin XLR type of socket, you can stick your probes directly in the socket to the outer two holes.

Your meter will tell you which is positive and negative.

thanks all I have 3 chargers and batteries all use the black jack type connecter, I wonder if you know wether the 4 pin female battery plug is available in the uk it costs nearly £25

when your battery is being recharged, its output voltage is only slightly below the charging voltage. Measure the voltage at the output, it's just as good.

thanks blew it for link I have ordered one
and charger jack.
I normal charge the battery (on the bike) the base of battery has 2 prongs which sit into recepticles on the mounting frame housing
I assume I can measure voltage at the base of battery ? just double checking

thank you
