Hi everyone,

I am looking for a charger for this lipo pack?

Which one should I get? I believe the charger can balance the cell as well right?

I used these ones for quite a while and they're quite adequate. You need a 5amp or more 12v power supply as well, which you can buy for about £5 or use a PC power supply, or a Playstation one, etc.

I now have this one that's a lot better, but more expensive. It's simpler to use because it charges and balances the cells individually through the balance leads. It still needs a power supply. A PC one would be better for more amps, which speeds up the charging:

I have an iCharger 206b which I've been very happy with, graphing function is great :) It's powered by a Meanwell NES-S350 15v power supply.

I don't balance charge very often (in fact I only balanced my current pack when first constructed - it now has 60 cycles on it) and I bulk charge my 63v pack with a Meanwell NES-S350 48v psu voltage modded and current limited:-

You just need a parallel charging board that costs about £10 or is free with the BC168 charger.

A common mistake is to forget to separate the series power lead before plugging the balance leads to the board, in which case there's instant vapourisation of your connectors, so if you want to charge in parallel, always separate the packs completely first.

Is it really that simple, take a PC PSU and "connect pins 13 (power on) and 14 (ground) with a wire or paperclip"? Are the connections "always the same", or it could be the connector of the PSU and the charge connector of the battery do not fit?

I have an old PC PSU, and I recall that when I bought it, it was a top notch one, close to 400W. It has been unused for a few years, but still should work.

Would it be a problem the PSU is "too powerful" and charges the battery too fast, damaging the cells?

Ah, sorry, I was thinking about batteries not needing a RC charger. For example, a Li-ion with a BMS. Those batteries charge with a charger such as:

which, if I understand correctly, is like a charger of a laptop or a smartphone, just bigger.

And from the appearance, it looks like a lot like a PC PSU. It seems from the link above the only difference between a PC PSU and a charger is the PSU is supposed to work connected to a motherboard. But if one uses a clip doing as suggested, the PSU transforms into a charger.

Is that OK?

Sorry Arbol - outta my sphere of know how !

I have a b6 but I just have a bog standard 5a power supply I found in a charity shop

More power is better as whilst I can charge a 3.7v cell at 5amps I mostly use it to charge 11.1v booster packs. And it tops out at 2.3a due to weak supply

The BMSBattery charger is a normal charger for a ebike battery. The one you linkrd to is too powerful for normal batteries. You'll ruin an ebike battery if you charge it to fast.

If you use lipos without a BMS, you need a balance charger that balances as well as charges. They normally work fro a 12V supply, which is where the PC power supply is used.

To convert a PC power supply to a 12V supply, you cut off the multi-pin connector, join an orange to grey,put all the lacks together (0V), all the yellows together (12V), and then put a switch between the green and a black.The switch is optional. You can just join them. The grey wire is a sense wire, and the orange 5v. If the grey doesn't get 5v, the power supply will shut down after a short time.
