I know that the eZee Sprint NiMH battery contains 30 D size cells. Does anyone know what Amp-Hour rating these cells are?
The specification for the pack is 36v at 9 Amps, which might suggest 9 Ah (i.e. 9000 mAh), but is that right?
I hope this isn't an FAQ (but maybe it should be?).

Yes, it is 9 Ah pgbw, and not an FAQ as far as I know.

Multiply the two, 36 x 9 to get the Watt/hours of 324.

Thank you for that confirmation. I've just been quoted about £280 (inclusive of VAT) for the cells I'd need!

Is that Batteryspace pgbw? It sounds like their prices.

If so, careful anyway. There's apparently been adverse reports about the quality of their cells.

That's The Battery Co (www.batterycompany.co.uk), but is similar to a price from Strikealite (for doing the refurb, rather than just supplying cells).
And it's too much for my budget.

If you can manage with 8 Ah, two Powacycle packs will cost you £198 and you'll have 10 cells left over which you can offer for sale through here.

I use and recommend them for Giant Twist batteries, see here.

You would have to separate the cells as they are strip connected in those packs. Could be a very tight fit, and I haven't tried that with the eZee case

Currently 50cycles have zero stock of Ezee NiMh batteries, when available the price is £170, it might be worth giving them a call if you havn't allready done so.

Alternatively a genuine Ezee 10Ah Li-Mg battery and charger will cost £300 from 50cycles and would seem to be well worth £20 more than a refurbed NiMh battery.

See here for details.

PS You may want to check these NiMh cells on ebay out, I have used them as single cell replacements and they seem OK. 11Ah capacity is an added bonus at £161 for the set (inc P&P). You would need to devise a way of joining them though.

Thank you for these suggestions.

I think that there could be a problem using cells from e-bay: they have a lump at the plus end (as do all standard cells), because that's how they connect in the normal configurations. But the cells we need are tagged, which saves a few millimetres per cell. Once you've stacked 5 cells, that's quite a lot of extra height.

I think that 50 cycles are only selling batteries with new bicycles at the moment, and we are all waiting for a new delivery to them, in the hope it has NiMH as well as Li-on. Personally, I am unimpressed by my current Li-on battery (for my Cadence), and very impressed by the 2 NiMH that my wife has for her Sprint.

Consensus here at the moment is to wait and see what 50 cycles can supply (as it will have warranties).

Anyway, it's too wet at the moment to do my commute (I'm a fair-weather cyclist).

Unfortunately pgbw space limitations within the ezee pack prevent the use of tagged cells so it is necessary to rely on pressure to make good contact. when I re-celled one of my ezee batteries I had to tear the tags off the replacement cells as the extra millimeter on each cell made the 6 stacks of 5 cells too tall. I was short of cells and made up the shortfall from those ebay cells.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that 50cycles do get some MiMh soon as that is undoubtedly the best way to go.
