Years ago i bought a 'smart' cat flap that would let the cat in if it had a known rf tag chip. Powered by a 12v dc supply and fitted with a 9v backup battery ala smoke alarms..
So what do you think happens when the 9v battery runs out of power?? any beeps?? any flashing leds, any leds at all, it has 2x 1 x red 1 x green that it uses to indicate modes etc...
NO, Its bloody answer to a low backup battery voltage is to switch off!! stop responding to button presses just open the catches let any old cat in/out whenever - meanwhile its still fully effin powered..
Had the effin thing in pieces this morning after finding the kitchen in a bit of a mess.. Hmm WONDER WHY??
the solution -- Remove the backup battery!!!! WTF!!!!
