July 8, 201312 yr I have searched before posting this, but can not find much.... I have just got the Sirocco CD from Woosh, and am finding my way around it, but have been to a few bike shops now and looked at loads of panniers, and there are a couple of things I don't get. First off they seem to be sold singly, but surely if i install one on one side of bike and put my 3kg bike lock in it, its going to adversely affect handing surely? I assumed I would just get a simple throw over set with pockets either side and equalise the weight out, but there seems to be very few of these? I suppose the other option is a top box or bag, but I like the idea of hiding the battery a bit more? Kev
July 8, 201312 yr This is what I've got and they are excellent. Halfords | Topeak Trunk Bag DXP with Straps They are available in many different sizes and places. I paid a lot less than this when I bought mine so if you're interested, look around a bit first. Mine fit with velcro tabs (which works fine) but they make versions with other fitting systems.
July 8, 201312 yr I bought the Aurora from Alien Ocean which comes with the type of panniers you describe, they may available as an accessory if they suit you.
July 8, 201312 yr I bought these Buy Raleigh Triple 28 Litre Bike Pannier at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Bike accessories. as they have a top compartment which holds my spare battery when I'm going for a good distance.
July 8, 201312 yr First off they seem to be sold singly, but surely if i install one on one side of bike and put my 3kg bike lock in it, its going to adversely affect handing surely? You can ride with one pannier and I've often done so with up to 5 kilos in it without noticing the imbalance when under way. In the same way that we automatically self balance the bike, we unconsciously self balance any side to side inequality.
July 8, 201312 yr Author Thanks everyone, I like the Argos ones but maybe like that without the top part? Will look at all of them later. Kev
July 8, 201312 yr Hi, been using these for the past year, m-wave double pannier £15 from amazon.if you get them when fitting the plastic boards that go inside at the bottom just round of the square ends, they will fit better. regards alan
July 8, 201312 yr Black Army Haversack with backpack Straps (Brand New condition) P&P £2.45 UK | eBay 2 of those with the straps put together in the middle.
July 8, 201312 yr iv had raleigh triple 28, for 8+ years on my bikes realy good bags only thing you need to watch out for is your heel hitting off them on the pedal up stroke, does no do this on my sirocco cd; [think its time for me to get a new set]
July 8, 201312 yr These are the ones I use, I think they were Halfords own brand, I have looked on their site but cannot see them just now. They are just a Throw over ie they are linked.

Well, for a while. First thing I noticed was that the dinky pockets on the back were useless, anything placed in there distorted the plastic stiffeners. Then I put two bottles of pop in one side and they burst the seams of the pannier. Our push-bikes still have the throw-over panniers (one floppy style, one rigid) that we bought in Holland in 2002 and 2004 respectively. However, I'm not seeing either of these two (Greenlander Adventura and PROFIL-DE FIETS SPECIALIST) on the web to buy again, which is a real pity. Edited July 8, 201312 yr by Biker44
July 9, 201312 yr I read quite a bit about pannier bags going into wheels, being permanently fixed when wrestled into place, and top bags and front loads affecting handling. I ended up with two Dutch-style wire baskets: light, rigid, simply hooked onto my substantial rear rack, easily detached to carry battery etc. when parking bike and doing errands. I often use just one for the lock or battery, and have had no balance problems (and I am not an experienced cyclist.) for leisure rides in company, I just remove them completely. I have the impression that using both gives the bike a wider outline and encourages motorists to give me a wider berth. Of course, baskets are not very macho . . . July 9, 201312 yr I looked in Argos this morning as I was walking past, they have some very similar to the ones I show in above post, but they do not appear on their website, might be worth just checking your local store, might be end of line.

Floppy Panniers can go into the rear wheel, but it depends entirely on the carrier - better ones have slight wings extending backwards, which prevent any problem. As you say, there is never a problem with imbalance. Do cars steer more clear of panniers? It is said they steer closer to cyclists wearing helmets! Unhappy with the M-Wave panniers I bought, I've tried this quick-detach basket arrangement on the back but I don't think its really as good.

I have this and it is top quality and can be removed simply by unclipping BUT i never do this as my controller sits in one pannier (they unfold when required). Will be selling and making a permanent mount for the controller.

August 13, 201312 yr ^^ down to £65 with current £15 off promotion @ Halfords plus you can get quidco cashback too I think. I use this too on both bikes (version with the slide-on MTX rack which is very solid) and it's a great bag. Really well made.
