I spotted a couple on two Scott (I think) Bosch hybrid bikes mixing it with the time trial bikes on Friday. It got me wondering if it would be possible to beat a time trialist? This is the winning rider of the day.

and for a bit of contrast, second placed man and lap record holder.

Not likely unless on an illegal bike.

"Rik Verbrugghe holds the record for the fastest ever stage in a grand tour. 58.874 km/h over the 7.6 km prologue course from the 2001 Giro d'Italia. Mario Cipollini holds the fastest road stage (48.521 km/h) from the 1997 edition and Alex Zülle holds the fastest time trial stage (53.771 km/h stage 15) from the 1998 edition.

The fastest ever Vuelta a España stage is held by Rubén Plaza. Plaza won the 39 km stage 20 time trial in 2005 at a speed of 56.22 km/h. This makes it the fastest ever non-prologue stage of a Grand Tour. Igor González de Galdeano holds the record for the fastest road stage. 2001 Vuelta stage 9, 179 km @ 55.176 km/h."

Hey Stu, how did the scotts look like they were doing? I followed a seriously quick lycra yesterday over part of my course (about 1 mile flat) he was really moving doing about 25/ 6 mph very high cadence, i was on L3 and caught and stayed with him quite easily (bs10) unfortunately he pulled off after 1 mile just before the road starts to rise into the hill, i would have loved to see what speed he could have maintained. But a big chapeau to whoever it was as he is the fastest i have come across so far, i dread to think what speed he would have got going down the hill.

I am assuming non racer types as the wattages other than one who is slower at a higher wattage? are quite low.

Rider 2 and 3 are the ones from the photos, so the finest time trialists in the land.

L Baldwin comes from my hometown. (assuming that it is the same one)

I've trounced every recorded time that he has put up on Stava. ;)

He is as arrogant as they come, which is kind of why I do it. :D
Just so that people don't get the wrong impression, the Lee in this race isn't the same one, our Lee is a lovely friendly guy.
