I have a bike with a hub motor (I think Bafang). The controller is a Bigstone C500 and its broken. I have sourced a replacement one from Yose power but its showing me an error code 9 which is about the communication with the rest of the bike. Any thoughts?

Did you physically break your old C500, or do you mean it stopped working? if it was broken, can you describe it with more details. How did it happen, where was it broken, etc?

Thanks. It was not turning on. I opened it to see if I could fix the on button but once I reassembled it, it showed somekind of critical error sign and im quite certain its completely wrecked it.

Firstly, if an LCD doesn't switch on, it's a 90% chance that there's nothing wrong with it, and the problem is that the battery voltage has been interrupted somewhere.

Secondly, if the battery wire or the blue one when switched on touches any of the others, you can wipe out the motor controller or the LCD or both. That would give the code 9, though there are many other causes for that, like mismatching parts and wiring errors.

Generally, you should always replace the motor controller and the LCD control panel as a pair because there can be wiring, software and firmware mismatches. You'll probably be OK if you buy another motor controller from Yose to match your LCD.

You can test your motor controller without the LCD by bridging the red and blue wires. It should work with the throttle and it should give level 1 pedal assist.

Thanks. I'm a little confused because I cannot see any coloured wires. I cant even see a control unit like I read about and see on custom kits. If it's in the base of the battery it's extremely small. The photo with the green end is what comes out of the controller. The other one is what comes from the motor.

The LCD connector comes from the controller, so just follow it to find the controller. You can see the colours of the wires after they enter the controller because each individual wire in the cable is individually soldered to the pcb. You can test from the pcb which pin on the connector goes to which wire. The pcb also has markings on it to tell you their function.

Bigstones are available to any one who wants to use them and that is where any simalarity in displays end. Bafang use lzds own brand controllers and Yose use Lishui brand now , the software in both are not compatible so one as mentioned has to source any display to pair with a controller from the same seller unless of course one uses a far simpler solution like KT for every thing.
