Firstly, if an LCD doesn't switch on, it's a 90% chance that there's nothing wrong with it, and the problem is that the battery voltage has been interrupted somewhere.
Secondly, if the battery wire or the blue one when switched on touches any of the others, you can wipe out the motor controller or the LCD or both. That would give the code 9, though there are many other causes for that, like mismatching parts and wiring errors.
Generally, you should always replace the motor controller and the LCD control panel as a pair because there can be wiring, software and firmware mismatches. You'll probably be OK if you buy another motor controller from Yose to match your LCD.
You can test your motor controller without the LCD by bridging the red and blue wires. It should work with the throttle and it should give level 1 pedal assist.
