Why are the billionaire newspaper owners trashing Penny M at every opportunity? Does it mean she would be a good PM for working people?
it's because they own Truss and not yet Mordaunt.
They did the same with the Royals until they own them.

I hope the coloured lady wins. I like the cut of her jib. She always seems to give answers which relate to the questions asked of her.

she's got trashed like other candidates except Truss, apparently.

They all promised magic money, ignoring that soon enough, we'll have to pay in interest more than what we spend on education, national defense and the NHS combined.

Currently, we pay £55 billions a year on interest while the BOE rate is 0.75%. What will annual repayment budget be when the rate goes up to 2%-3% or even 10%?

Bbc news: tugendhat came first, then sunak. Truss came last.
I watched it. The audience wasn't particularly impressed with any one. Nobody trusts politicians. 10 put their hands up at the end when asked are you more likely to vote Conservative again.

It’s terrifying. Truss committed to spend £33 billion in a couple of sentences on Thursday. All of it borrowed because there’s no income as far as I can see. Most of the 33 bill would be skimmed off by their mates in the private sector providing “government services.”

I’d rank them Bedenoch, Tugen(something) and Penny M, but all destined to failure by circumstances anyway. It’s just a case of who can fail in the least catastrophic way. Truss and the Snake are a definite no for me.

We need Starmer to commit to a referendum on EU membership so we have a real choice of direction. An actual alternative.

Starmer will probably borrow just as much albeit for different reasons. The thing that bothers me is every time a politician claims that they borrow for reason X, whatever X is, growth, green tech, social housing, covid, health care, care for the elderly etc, someone should shout at them like Sunak did to Truss last night, 'debt is debt, there is no such thing like covid debt'.
As for rejoining the EU, that ship has sailed and won't be back for at least 10 more years if not 20. We are not going to be at the core of the system, we'll be joining after Ukraine.

This is why I want Sunak to be PM.

He's the only one with financial ability. Ignore his spending as chancellor, that was just following Johnson's policies. Now he's showing his true colours, and they are sensible.

The rational part of me agrees. The only problem with sunak is that he is, even by tory mp standards, a colossal onanite.

Aren't nearly all politicians?

I don't care, he's best for this job in hand. Eventual failure is guaranteed, but his is likely to be the least affecting.

if you have 5 minutes spare, read John Crace's summary of last night C4 debate. He is very funny.

‘I’ve delivered the impossible,’ said Truss, blinking rapidly and sounding like a superannuated 1980s Amstrad computer. Photograph: Tom Nicholson/REX/Shutterstock

Cunning - a sentence which, if true as a whole, must be untrue in the detail. Is such a sentence, one that cannot on fundamental logic grounds ever be self-consistent, a lie?

Truss seems to suffer delusion of grandeur.
Perhaps Jonathan.agnew may suggest a treatment.

Sunak deploys "scrap EU red tape" ruse. And all too many are likely to believe it.

The more we move away, the more difficult exporting to the EU will become. And I simply do not believe it is that which explains why we fail so much, so often.

I thought the sudden, paused, monotonous speech and expressionless face (didn't it start a few months ago?) were desperate obamaesque attempts at gravitas? Seemed an improvement on the dead ringer "I know!"s
