You'd think predictive text would have improved over the years but it seems you can type in "tractors" and it predicts "pornhub".
Unlike the rest of you I have some sympathy for that Tory MP.. ..at least for the first infraction. Some years ago I was running a tutorial on the use of Electronic Cad Software .. actually a very good British designed suite , which we had taken a site license for, at a fraction of the cost of an inferior performance USA offering. Anyway the class was making great progress, so I decided to introduce them to making their own logos ..an image they could etch into the copper, identifying their copyright.
A data projector could display the contents of the computer I was using onto a screen for the entire class to follow. Note these were class computers ,used by multiple students, on a network and not my personal machine. So I created my own logo, as they prepared theirs, and as I was not sure of one small step.. where the image would be stored, , I disconnected the projector and used only the laptop screen display was visible to me, as I checked where the image was being stored. Well the picture folder was not quite empty,!. There were multiple images of very attractive females, ..at least from the waist upwards!!, They were certainly not female below.
What the ramifications would have been had I , as Head of Department , displayed that to the class, would have put the MPs predicament in the halfpenny place.

Like so many of the tory problems, it was very largely the way they handled it. Rather, failed to handle it.

I can easily understand a mistake. In that situation, I think I'd have switched app, gone back, or whatever. And been very careful not to go there again.

It was then followed by pompous statements like:

What needs to happen now is that the proper procedures need to be gone through, the independent complaints and grievances procedure needs to be activated and we need to get to understand the facts, but, yeah, that kind of behaviour is clearly totally unacceptable.

The MP involved could have already owned up and made an excuse (possibly one that was true).

It's primarily a problem of women in parliament and the increasingly assertive attitude so many women have towards men now. Men trying to be PC in response compounds the problem.

The day women become perfect they can be assertive towards me. Until then they can get lost with such irrelevant attitudes.

This is classic

The picture Nadine Dorries is retweeting is of Keir Starmer sharing a curry with Frank Dobson who died in 2019. Ergo he could not have been eating with Keir Starmer in 2021 no matter what time of day it was. Nadine Dorries is the Cabinet minister responsible for #disinformation

Nothing to complain about there
She is definitely providing the misinformation she is responsible for!

Timing alone makes it look as if they have no evidence. Just long enough before 5th May for people to hear about the claims. Not long enough for things like an inquiry or any legal action. Indeed, as it is a resurrection of previous allegations, we have to ask why they have previously backed off and dropped the case.

I wonder if the story below is in any way related to Johnson's inability to recognise Lorraine Kelly?

This is filed in the "That's all right then" category

Susannah Reid asks Boris Johnson what he would do to help pensioner Elsie who can’t afford to stay at home because keeping heating on is too expensive and travels round London on bus all day.
Johnson says that as London mayor he introduced the 24 hour freedom bus pass.

Clearly we are going to need a bigger transport network!

Today's contribution to the "we're really in touch" fantasy:

Shoppers can deal with soaring food prices and cope with the cost of living crisis by choosing value brands in the supermarket, the environment secretary has suggested.

George Eustice, the cabinet minister overseeing food and farming, told Sky News food prices were going up because of the knock-on effect of higher energy costs, pushing up fertiliser and feed costs.

He said: “Generally speaking, what people find is by going for some of the value brands rather than own-branded products – they can actually contain and manage their household budget.

“It will undoubtedly put a pressure on household budgets and, of course, it comes on top of those high gas prices as well.”

He argued there was a “very, very competitive retail market with 10 big supermarkets and the four main ones competing very aggressively, particularly on some of the lower-cost, everyday value items for households, so things like spaghetti and ambient products – there’s a lot of competition to keep those prices down”.

He obviously doesn't think for half a second, just who is already buying the "value" brands. I suggest it will very often be those who already couldn't afford "big brands".

And there is a fundamental issue with going down market. Think of cow. If everyone is trying to save money, they will go for mince or "cheap" cuts. So who will buy the fillet steak?

We want those who can afford it to buy the expensive cuts and leave the cheap stuff for those who can't. That way, the rich who buy that fillet steak can, in a sense, subsidise those cheap cuts.

did you see the demo video of the new US 'QuickSink'?

Could hasten the possibility I mentioned, the end of naval surface ship warfare.

Leaving future warfare as only a matter for missiles launched from land, aircraft and drones and from submarines.

An age when enemies rarely see each other face to face until the last stage of war.

No real surprise that they don't give many details, but do we know what makes it so much more effective than previous devices?
I don't know for sure but the article talks about a cheap upgrade of a previous weapon. The first bit is it's fitted to a plane and has a good autonomous GPS guidance system, then a second charge exploding below the waterline after impact, like a traditional torpedo but released at much higher speed. All you need is a plane to release it. It's effective and low cost.

Local elections appear to be covered by the Electoral Commission. Part of their job is to maintain a register of political parties.

I looked and searched for registered parties includes "conservative" in England.

The list is only one page and mostly variants of Conservative and Unionist Party.

But in Birmingham (and quite possibly many other areas) there are candidates listed as:

Malik Zafar Iqbal, Local Conservatives
Lokman Hakim, Local Local Conservatives

This is an official candidate list:

As I see it, those party names are not registered and is eminently confusable with the official party. How come the returning officer has allowed those party names?

And just how far away from Westminster are they trying to run?

If only we could solve the problems of peacetime as easily as we solve those of war.

I see that the name Local Conservatives was registered on 04/02/2019.

Which means someone was looking at such issues over three years ago.

But a few have chosen not to use that new-fangled name.
