Brexit, for once some facts.

John Lewis are being smart, they are closing all their stores from Monday but 2100 of their partners will be transfered into their Waitrose supermarkets to help, particularly on the home delivery aspects. Makes good sense, having people where they are most needed.

Does self-isolate and socially distance yourself include getting in the car, driving two hundred or more miles, occupying holiday cottages and caravans and so on, and wiping out stock in local shops?

Appears that vast numbers of people would rather come to Wales than stay wherever they usually live. Despite medical provisions being often meagre for the all-year residents without the capacity to support more.

A very approximate estimate was that today two thirds of the cars and other people movers, etc., were non-Welsh plates. When there are effectively no tourists, I'd guess something like a third are non-Welsh but owned by residents. (Including my car. :( But never before has there been any sort of reason to change it.)

I shall be very surprised if our covid-19 numbers don't rise significantly in the next few days/week or two.

Rather wryly amusing when you think this is a consequence of freedom of movement within the UK - whilst blaming EU FoM for every other bad thing that has happened in the last forty years.
The Italian Health Ministry has banned people from driving to their country homes and the police are stopping and checking all urban outbound traffic.

Seems we've left it too late.

Yes that is sensible. I was expecting a big run on house paints and emulsions ..but no. What with people stuck at home. I think that people are worried about not having a job to come back to.
Aldi and Lidl put out adds inviting particularly drapery and clothes shop assistants ,abd restaurant staff to join them. Food distribution is where tge action is.

I don't know what would be the best way of stopping people going to holiday homes (their own or rented), but I do think it necessary to do something.

Just catching up on the USA:

The number of Covid-19 cases and related deaths are soaring in the US, closing in on 20,000 cases today and 260 deaths. At this point, one in five Americans from coast to coast have been told to stay at home in an effort to stop the rapid spread of the virus.

Yep - stay at home, folks. Tell you what, you stay at your home, and we'll stay in ours.

The problem is we can see through them already and it's not a pretty sight.

Doesn't stop them coming in the first place, though.

Can't help thinking biblical - everyone has to return to their official home. Probably defined as where they pay council tax - unless they claim otherwise and register that claim.

But they won't stay in an unheated home with no lighting, fridge or TV will they?

The Queen has departed Buckingham Palace for Windsor Castle as the coronavirus epidemic grips London - she had a headstart a couple of days ago...

Probably true but that would also impact anyone who happened to have a refrigerator or freezer or alarm or remote monitoring or ...

Looks like I am not the only one:

Coronavirus: Action urged as travel advice ignored
People should be banned from travelling to second homes and caravan parks should be shut down, Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price has told the first minister.

Publicise on the media that the police in the holiday homes location will be stopping entry to the homes and requiring to know why they are disregarding government instructions by travelling.

Local police in those areas have a very good idea of which are the holiday homes.

I would seek to differ. A family travelling from London to their cottage in Devon make no difference.. in fact if they can wander the byeways in the West country, staying a distance from other people , its a win win . The problem is stopping for coffees in motorway cafes. Likewise it makes no difference to drug and food distribution. Delivery vans are driven by single drivers

Just got a genetic relations update - apparently I have loads of rellies out there!

First one I looked at - family name Cummings. Oh no! Surely not... That is something I hadn't bargained on as a possibility.

(I severely restrict what anyone knows about me. Am always surprised how open some people are.)

Added: Also found Johnson!

The actual driving - no problem. But there are issues with coffee, WC breaks, refuelling.

And if the people are willing to keep away from others and be self-contained, it could be OK. But they are NOT keeping away from others and they are NOT self-contained.

They are not maintaining separation. They are hitting the shops and causing food and other shortages.

The risk is that if they don;t know thay are infected and travelling out of London while asymptomatic, with the symptoms only becoming apparent later. So on arrival at their second homes doing a shop there adding to demand and risking infection into uneffected communities.

Basically a national spread version of it using cars instead of international airliners.

Up the coast from me Southwold and Aldeburgh in Suffolk hit by London refugees - well we'll know in few days if cases start popping up.
