Brexit, for once some facts.

I like Iain Martin's take on Corbyns latest move:

"In a bid to persuade other Labour MPs standing on the edge of revolt and resignation, threatening to turn a breakaway into a full split, Corbyn has been forced to promise a referendum rerun, sort of.

Before the People’s Vote crowd perform a europhile victory dance – break out the magnums of Bollinger, quails’ eggs all round, everyone back to Roland Rudd’s house to watch the Krzysztof Kieślowski season on the Curzon cinema home-streaming service – it is worth examining the small print.

On closer inspection, this Corbyn move is revealed to be an obvious scam. It has the look of one of those magnificently ingenious operations organised by Corbyn’s closest and most Stalinist advisors in which they perform – in the phrase of my colleague Philip Collins – an exercise designed to appear meaningful. And it’s not.

The Labour leadership is committing to holding a referendum only after it has negotiated a magical new deal, involving a magical version of a customs union that has no basis in recorded history. But Labour is not leading the negotiations, because it did not win the last general election. There is also no evidence that there is a majority for a referendum rerun in the House of Commons. Plenty of Labour MPs are opposed. Sufficient MPs seem aware of the risks inherent in such a brazen act. Announcing to the country that three years after the voters chose to leave the European Union they must vote again to get it right this time is a lunatic course of action risking the social fabric of the nation.

The aim of Team Corbyn is obvious. Corbyn and his closest aides are Brexiteers leading a party that is heavily anti-Brexit, with the added complication that around a third of Labour voters voted to leave the EU. The bitterness among aggrieved activists and engaged voters will last for years. Corbyn and the far left leadership need to have something soothing to say. This way they can say they did offer a second referendum, eventually. It was an offer made too late and ringed with qualifications and hedged with caveats, but they tried. The terrible Tories blocked it, and so on, repeat to fade for half a decade and more.

This development underlines that May has had a pretty good 24 hours or so on Brexit. There seems to be a slight change in the mood on the EU side, and talks on tweaks are ongoing in Brussels.

Even though Corbyn’s pledge is a scam, it could help Theresa May get a version of her deal through because it adds to the uncertainty, if even more uncertainty is conceivable. It should help those Tory MPs with their brains switched on see that the imperfect May deal is at least a known quantity and it involves leaving the institutions of the EU soon. Kill the deal and a long delay could be imposed, with the referendum rerun monstrosity thrown in, or an accidental general election. A few Tories appear to seek such an election, believing that they would win a huge majority for a “clean Brexit.” What could possibly go wrong? A lot, is the answer."

I'd not have put us right at the top of the list for trouble, protest, disorder.

This is what Welsh police forces are doing to prepare for possible 'civil unrest' after Brexit
One force seems particularly worried

One police force in Wales seems to be more worried than others when it comes to Brexit , and has even asked councillors to keep an eye out for potential trouble.

Dyfed-Powys Police has written to all county councillors and local councillors in Pembrokeshire asking them to monitor "community tensions".

The county is also the only one so far which will have specialist police officers on standby after March 29, the date the country is due to exit the European Union.

A spokesman for the force confirmed they were readying themselves for a no-deal Brexit and putting measures in place to deal with potential protest and disorder, as well as civil contingencies.

It is going to need something much more fundametal to happen before there is a further Referendum.
There would have to be a major collapse within the Conservative ranks to change the balance of power to favour the opposition.
Careful what you wish for. Do we really want an extreme far right populist party in the midst of a self inflicted economic crisis? Remember how ukip took off. It can happen again.

It was 12 before the last vote.

Remind me - how did that turn out?
since, we found out how effective leave's electioneering was.
would that work again? you won't know until you try.

Frankly it's already too late the damage is already done.
since, we found out how effective leave's electioneering was.

acta non verba as the marines say. it will no doubt work. I don't see any signs of insight or awareness in the electorate at large. the only reason ukip isn't as loud a voice as it was is because the ERG is. there's every chance of someone like reese mogg being the most popular populist in a few years time. then one could end up longing for when we had may.

apparently:

Under strict European Union rules, pallets arriving from non-member countries must be heat-treated or cleaned to prevent contamination, and marked to confirm they meet a series of EU rules.

Most pallets currently used by British exporters do not conform to these rules meaning that British export business could potentially grind to a halt next month in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

DEFRA last week confirmed to industry leaders that the United Kingdom will not have even close to enough EU-approved pallets for companies to use for exporting to the EU after a potential no-deal exit.

Whisper it quietly, but the best outcome for the DUP is actually a people’s vote. They’ll scream red, white and blue murder if it happens but privately breathe a sigh of relief. Like Boris Johnson, they never wanted Brexit but wanted to be seen to support it. A second referendum offers an escape from their worst nightmare, while allowing them to reluctantly go along with “the will of the entire country”. Very unionist.

Yes he is a comedian, and has a way with words. The question is not what is the day job is, but is his point valid?. I think it is. And he has as much a claim to your sympathy as Ms Foster.

Actually it's a bit sad that this congenital liar has the Brass to come out with this line
"This has been a painful process and our thoughts go out to the bereaved, who still haven’t come to terms with the fact that they lost fair and square."

Who writes his material? Joseph Goebbels?
That has to be the biggest lie of the year so far, but there will still be some slow thinkers who believe him!
Give a thought to their predicament! to misquote Spike Milligan
"In the Human race today, they came last"

12-March: meaningful vote. If that fails, 13-March: No Deal motion.
If that fails, 14-March: Extending A50 motion.
What if that also fails? second referendum?

For us to extend A50, as far as I am aware, all the other country's have to agree.
It would only take one of the 27 to vote against and we would be back at no deal.

And that also fails!.
The assumption that the EU is lining up waiting to give the UK an extension is potentially flawed. While some in the centre eg Junkers, Barnier and Our Leo would be wishing it so, it is NOT a fait accompli. All it requires is one country, out of 27 to stick their oar in and the facade collapses...(great mixing of metaphors there). And there is only One week available, otherwise it becomes illegal.
The problem with a rule based system is that there are rules.
