I note with a tinge of amusement that I have attracted a few "disagree" markers regarding my thoughts on the Richmond by-election. The remain camp seem to believe that because an anti BREXIT parliamentary candidate won, in an area which voted by over 70% in favour of remaining in the EU during the referendum, that this somehow represents a sea change in public opinion on the matter.

If we were to hold a by-election in Boston (Lincs) and the candidates canvased on their stance on BREXIT, a pro BREXIT candidate would win for much the same reasons as the Lib Dem candidate won in Richmond. As with Richmond, this would have absolutely nothing to do with the imaginary shift in the nation's stance on BREXIT, as the remainers seem to be putting out.

Since all the post BREXIT predictions of disaster have failed to materialised, and will continue to do so, I suppose this latest fabrication gives them a straw to clutch at.

A Tory, a Liberal & the little one from the SNP.

Mind, Trumps hair came in for some stick, but what I want to know is how did he change from black hair to blonde and when?
fair enough, that is where my denial kicks in (I find it impossible to think of May as a carbon based life form, let alone woman). Trump's hair is fascinating. beyond bizarre. either he has a sense of humour (unlikely) or vast grandiose delusions (more likely)

ah, you were doing so well and then you type something that's total nonsense undoing chances of people respecting your other opinions.

How can POST BREXIT predictions have failed to materialise already, seen as BREXIT hasn't materialised yet? You can only say they won't have come true, after Brexit. Currently, the long list of negative impacts are as a result of the vote and prospect of Brexit. The predictions about what would happen post brexit are all still very real possibilities.

You know perfectly well what I meant.

Prior to the referendum, the situation was predicted to be so bad, that in the event of a BREXIT win, the government would need to hold an emergency budget. That and many other "immediate" dire consequences have failed to materialise. In fact, the reverse has happened in some instances.

So don't try the old, "you were doing so well" chestnut.

sometimes I wonder whether any brexiters have ever been employed? if you ran a business and the marketing manager, hypothetically, told your biggest customer to get lost and that you dislike his ethnicity. and the shares in the company took a 30% hit, would you say that?

i want to know why all remainers insist on ignoring Minford,Lyons,King and Hargreaves. At one time even Carney was saying same but he seems to change his stance every few weeks.
Ok I,ll accept Flecs argument to discount Minford ( sort of) but KTM and Kudos are just so adamant we are heading for economic Armageddon ..purely based on value of pound, even which has brought along some benefits.
And before you all start shouting pound has collapsed.
.It was way over valued prior to June 23rd...even now after its drop ( and partial recovery) I can still buy my favourite Brandy in Southrrn Spain for £5...still buy 3 course menu del dia for about £10..Diesel is still cheaper ( in Spain) than home..so where is the collapse ?? Wine in Lidl? £1.50 a bottle..

And to answer my own question.
A) you want to believe it. Even tho things have not gone according to Osbourne,s lies.

B) You have been brainwashed into believing all the negativity around brexit.
Perpetrated by the BBC !!! Biased Broadcasting Corporation.

speaking of orientation (and apologies for a bit of a tangent), have any of you tried VR? Im thinking of getting an HTC vive. one thing that's pretty clear to me is that as technology integrate a forum like this will inevitably become VR - both a written forum as well as amore three dimensional space in which views are shared (which should be interesting)
No I haven't, despite being retired I'm time-poor due to a variety of activities, which limits the range of activities I dive into.

But I'm only 80, so plenty of time for that when I get old. :)

That's unfair, read the thread if you want to make judgements. My opinion isn't even vaguely based on the current fall of the pound, or any of the arguments made during the referendum campaign.

It's based soundly on our history, including our decline from post WW2 to when we joined the EU, and all the circumstances surrounding that era. So my judgment is based on factual knowledge of actual events, with no estimation or prediction.

All this was spelled out in great detail earlier in this very long thread. I don't blame you for not reading it all, but you shouldn't make assumptions on how I make decisions when you don't have that knowledge.

And BTW the Richmond by election should be re run on a number of reasons. .The majority wasn't big enough, folk didn't know what they were voting for and will all change their minds after listening to Hartley Brewer.

Besides it was only advisory.

Ok flecc I,ll cross you off but hardly think experiences post WW 2 count for more than listed people,s opinion, ( its like saying their opinions / experiences count for nothing) but that's your prerogative. Lets face it OG says he doesn't want to go back to rationing ! So irrational reasoning seems the norm on here..( he,ll be back to harang me now) Mind rationing in Hull is still in force......

derf, I am employed in a full time job. I always have been.

In addition to my employment, I also run an aircraft maintenance and airworthiness business. My customers include citizens of the UK, Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Spain and Luxembourg. I have a good relationship with them and they like me and the quality of service that I provide. This is reinforced by the repeat loyal customers I have and the growing nature of the business.

I have no intention of telling any of them to get lost. Yet again you have made this up. This tendency of yours to fabricate, invent and imagined situations that have no bearing on reality or fact is becoming tiresome. Please get a grip on yourself and separate truth from lies.

Yes, I know and its highly possible that post Brexit, or even post A50 being triggered we WILL need an emergency budget. Its possible we won't but you can't say anyone on the remain side's predictions were wrong, when there were based on leaving the EU. We've not left yet, or even triggered the intention to leave.

That's a simple fact. So yes I am entitled to try the old "you were doing so well" chestnut, because you're wrong.

That comparison is false, you are ignoring the other factor, the airport, kidding yourself that the LIb-Dem candidate's adoption of that policy as well made a difference. It didn't, that intelligent electorate weren't fooled by her ploy. You are the one clutching at straws, just be patient and the truth will dawn with time.

I fear you won't like it when it does.

Or not wrong. As the future will reveal in due course.

no you're wrong to say that their predictions are wrong.

Currently, everything predicted about what happens post Brexit are still just that. So you might well be right, that the predictions will be wrong.

But currently, you can't say they are wrong. Which is what you said.

Since all the post BREXIT predictions of disaster have failed to materialised, and will continue to do so, I suppose this latest fabrication gives them a straw to clutch at.
and this was wrong.

flecc, I can't see how the airport made any difference. Both opposed it cancelling out the issue in terms of election advantage. That just left BREXIT, in or out of the EU. We already knew the mood in Richmond,

And now Juhnker announces other EU members must not hold referendums!! That,s democracy at work from our unelected leader of eu..
Just to remind you...this man is the ex priminister of what has become richest nation on earth.. all gained out of other countries loss in tax revenue !!!
Just think what state poorer eu countries could be in if inly one tength of companies had gone to them over Luxembourg..but eu tax laws prevent them offering same incentives as Juhnkers organised for Luxembourg....Its utterly appalling. ( again just to remind you in 2012 Luxembourg allowed American Companies to reduce their tax burden by 95 billion dollars. Imagine what that money could have done for impoverished. And that is only American companies...Its the same for every major EU country.

And remainers want this man to remain in power holding massive power over UK.. Why ???

Once again a very silly assumption, do you really think rationing is a factor in my opinion. It's based on the facts of our economic, industrial and commercial performance history and the continuous decline when we managed all of our own affairs during that quoted period.

Joining the EU has turned that around, but it seems you would prefer to ignore the facts and believe the opinions and predictions of "experts" whose proven greatest skill is in getting their predictions wrong.

more nonsense....

He's totally elected, just like our PM is elected.

He was a member of the European parliament, so was elected .

Then was elected with 422 votes by European Parliament in a secret ballot on 15 July as President of the new European Commission to take office on 1 November 2014 for a five year term.

What part of that makes him unelected??
