long-time lurker, but now on the verge of building my own hub motor hybrid. I have a question regarding braking....

If my bike has hydraulic brakes, what are my options? I am looking to be able to control when the motor switches off either by stopping pedalling, or by throttle control.

Thanks in advance for your help/knowledge.

Use a KT controller, then you don't need brake switches.

A question for our history of cycling experts:

When did the law require two brakes, front and rear? Why did someone think that was necessary/a good idea?

My personal guess is back in time brakes were so bad that the powers that be decided they were required on both wheels. Since the advent of hydraulic brakes only the front one is of any use on the road. People doing silly things off-road may need two hydraulic brakes I don't know...

Many cars get by with hydraulic disc brakes on the front and drum brakes in the rear. A bike will be just fine with a hydraulic brake (disk or rim) on the front and a cable rim brake on the rear. The bike will be lighter and stop just as well. No in fact it will stop better because it is lighter!
