More info here and pretty pictures released today. Only in German so far Bosch - eBike

Click on the dropdown menus to see more. This baby looks like it could well give Panasonic a run for their money if it performs a good as it looks;)

There's an English introduction only button top left.

Nice to see a battery mounted forward of the seat tube at last, makes so much sense. The frame mounting arrangement looks more expensive for bike manufacturers to fabricate and the two part construction isn't as neat as the Panasonic and Yamaha units. A point I'd like to get a better look at in another perspective is the way the cranks appear markedly bent out in Cyclone kit fashion to clear the unit.

Good to see this rapidly increasing choice of crank drives though, the Japanese Sunstar SO2 after market kit as well.

after trying a Swiss Flyer X model a couple of times over the last 2 days I will be interested in how this pans out. and yes the central battery placement kinda suggests to me they know what they are doing (hey! what do I know:D)

I am thinking with their battery knowledge and reputation this could be a very interesting bike.....

anyone hazard a guess as to how it will compare with a Panasonic powered bike?

more power and range would be nice........The battery looks a bit more substantial then the Panasonic?

Hopefully designed for bigger Europeans as opposed to Japan with all those likle people...........

I'm not sure it moves the game on much more but at least it offers an alternative.

eddieo, interesting. I see the public will see it for the first time today at the Eurobike exibition as well. Hopefully we will see some reviews soon. Their screw driver was the first Lithium DIY tool I owned :p

I think ebikes may actually be coming of age, if not now then certainly in the next year or so.

Regards

Jerry

Oh dear....was hoping for something at bit more practical:D

Scott also unveiled the Scott E Sub 10 with Bosch system and 36 v battery. The sub 10 is a decent £700 bike so this could be an interesting combination. also top of the range is the scott E-Sub 10 model with the new Shimano Alfine 11 speed hub

looks like everyone is getting in on E Bikes.....

With a rider onboard and legs masking the battery, it could be difficult to see at a glance that it's electric.

Hopefully it will be quite silent to aid that.

On the black one yes....

Do you think the 8 amp battery will work against it or any chance the Bosch battery technology can compensate for this?

12 amp Panasonic is maybe looking better for me:(

Yes I think the battery will be the key here. It has to be a minimum of 10Ah these days. The Panasonics are so efficient and while I am sure the Bosch will be as well I don't think that battery efficiency will be any better in the Bosch. I think the 18Ah option will be the killer here, much as I love the look of the new bosch powered bikes shown here. I don't think it will be long before Bosch come up with a higher Ah battery but that battery box does look quite small. Still waiting for UK prices as well so the discussion could be academic if they are £2500 +

Yes, 8 Ah is a problem with the Yamaha crank drive unit too, no-one wants les than 10 these days and even
that is starting to look mean.

The Bosch pricing will be interesting, in some fields they compete with low cost makes as in household goods
like fridges, in others they price very high.

This is a 36V battery, compared with the 26V for the Panasonic, so 8Ah 36V (288Wh) should provide more useful energy than 26V 10Ah (260Wh).
