I saw this product which was funded from a Kickstarter project. Am I missing something but this looks a bit useless?

On the plus side I can see that it;
+ Keeps your upper body dry
+ Prevents sweating
+ Covers the handlebars
+ Compact

One the negative side;
- Does little to keep your legs dry
- Not sure it would go under/over a helmet
- What happens on a windy day?

It's a present day, short-a***ed take on the good old fashioned bike cape which I used as a message boy in the 1950s. The old capes were much longer and afforded good protection. (Flecc - the link was "this product")

It looks a bit short to me compared with the one I use, but only a trial would confirm that.

Generally ponchos/capes are excellent for cycling. Their main advantages are the air flow, which stops you from drowning in your own sweat, the unrestricted pedalling, which makes them very comfortable to use, and best of all, they keep all your electrics dry.

I use one whenever I have to go out in the rain.

Click “this product” in the post.
Thanks Grey, the link colour in this forum is so weak I missed it.

I'm also a cape user like d8veh and consider they've always been the best solution for cycling in rain. As he remarked this one looks a bit short, I'd have preferred more drop at front and back, but it will otherwise be very effective and I like the integrated hood.

I think they are a good solution, but not many shops seem to stock them now.

It probably has a lot to do with howmuch profit you can make selling clothing made of exotic breathable fabrics compared with a sheet of plasic than anything else.

Integrated hoods can be dangerous for cycling.
Your head tends to turn within the hood so that a glance behind or even to the side is obstructed.
A number of people years ago had road accidents as pedestrians when crossing roads with the old duffel coats with hoods.

I always wear a cap under the hood, that way everything turns when you turn your head thanks to the visor. It also keeps the rain out of your eyes... Of course now I have a helmet with screen :D

It's why many years ago that I fitted a cycle mirror which solves that problem. Since the mirror makes all cycling much safer it's win all round.
