Afternoon All,
I've recently used BMS Battery to buy a new ebike kit. This consisted of the following :-

Bafang BPM Motor 350w 36v - Wind to 35kph (22/23mph)
Laced into a 28inch 700c wheel (Front Driven)
Universal Controller - 20 amp
Usual pedelec Sensors / Brake sensors (Although don't think I'll use)

For the nifty sum of £148 Inc Delivery

This was ordered 23/03/2011.

Now emails have done backwards and forwards regarding when the item will be shipped. Its took untill today to get it shipped.

Now although communication's have always been responded to I believe the language barrier is pesent due to the fact alot of answears are given in a generic term.

Anyway I believe the reason for the delay in shipment was that they were out of stock on front driving BPM's. It was only when said on the off chance you can sent me either front or rear I don't mind. That they kind of got there act together.

Anyway I am still none the wiser to if I will get a Front or a Rear motor.

Even when I ask them they don't seem to be able to answer themselves.

Will have to wait and see what turns up...

I'll keep you all posted.

OK on your purchases with BMSBattery.

I have gone for this lot:-

  • BPM 350W 36V with hall sensors rear drive motor
  • 12 Mosfets Universal controller
  • Thumb Level Throttle
  • Three Speed Switch Kit
  • 14-28 Teeth Shimano Freewheel
  • PAS--Pulse Pedal Assistant Sensor
  • Stainless Steel Spokes
  • Plus connectors etc
£145 Inc P&P

I will be building the hub into my own rim. I hope that the spokes I am getting from BMS will be OK. I have a fairly heavy duty DH rim from Halo.

I have a few batteries I can use for the project. I am just putting an A123 36V 10Ah pack together which I hope will go into the frame triangle. I think it should be good with the BPM hub. I am after the power to help on the hills I have to tackle on the edge of the city and the Peak District.

I ordered on 25/03/11, not sure if it was night or day in China. After emailing to check the status of the order I got a shipment notification on the 8th April. I kept trying the reference number BMS sent me. But to no avail as it never showed any details of the shipment. I emailed BMS again on the 17th April, and yesterday got a reply with another shipment reference! Which so far is showing no sign of the shipment details when I check. So it looks like I will have to wait a few more days. Then if there is no confirmation of a package on its way, I will have to email again and no doubt find they have not shipped. And then want more to cover the cost of increased shipping charges.....

I will be interested hear how you get on Scotty. I wonder what you are putting the kit on?

This will be my 4th build so I hope I have thought of all the bits and pieces I need. Looks like great cycling weather at the moment. So it’s a pity I am not riding due to a bad back, but hopefully only temporary.

Kit is going on the same Marin Kentfield FS 2008 bike that I have.
Don't mind if its front or rear driven.

Just be glad when it arrives and I can fit it.

The only real reason I have got the BPM is for a higher assist speed and it was cheaper to replace controller and motor than a 48v battery.

It also means I can sell the motor and controller in the future or keep them as spares as the bpm has alot more potential...

Date Status
2011-04-18 14:32:51 Shipped
2011-03-24 08:53:19 Handling
2011-03-23 20:08:51 Payment accepted

Thats my order so far...

VHFman, a couple of things: I'm not sure that the three position switch works with the controller that they supply, let me know if you can get it working. To track your item, enter the verification code in lower case and it'll work.

Depends if they supply the LDZS or E-crazyman style controller. The E-c controller supports the simple 3-way switch and can be programmed with parameter designer.

That's a good price, hope it doesn't take too long. I know what you mean about dealing with Chinese people, the language barrier can be a big problem when you need answers.. I had the same problems with my battery purchase from China, getting answers to general and technical questions proved difficult. I bought my kit from Austria and also had problems with the German language barrier as they didn't understand much English either.. ended up having to use Google Translate to send emails in German, and then they were able to respond to them in English, with very short answers!

Its ok, I mean I deal with alot of far east suppliers in work.
I'm generally used to the customs and problems and find the Chinese in general are alot quicker / have better english than alot of other places.

I hate dealing with bangledesh / pakistan. India are better but give me the chinese any day of the week.
They always seem please to speak to you as well.

As a quick update...

In the end they have sent me a rear driving motor for the cost of a front driving motor. Which in the end is better as I can always go mental and make a dual setup in the future.
Not only that Its probably better to have a rear bpm and I can make it much more stealth. As the freewheel and controller can all be hidden in my motorbike tank bag.

Although it will make the bike a little unbalanced due to all the weight being on the rear. Could be interesting if I ever over volt it and get it to be a wheelie monster... lol.

Althogh thats miles off and I'd need a super battery to run it.
