it's the low torque, yield at low revs - maybe the figures are so bad that they don't want to publish them.
A few years back, one guy came up with a direct drive motor built into the pedals.
It didn't get anywhere.
I wish more people spend their energy on designing better, lighter gearboxes rather than gimmicky schemes like this.
