Bike watches?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering, if there a special watches for bikes that could be connected to a bike tachometer and that has some sporty functions like timers and such? preferably the whole thing would look like those Jaeger LeCoultre watches Although that last part is optional
Any advice would be greatly appreciated though

There are a number of GPS watches available for cycling which record speed and distance from their GPS, so it's not necessary to have them connected to any bike computer. They usually have many other funstions like heart rate monitoring, altitude etc, so it's possible that some will include timer/stopwatch functions. If not, such calculation is easily derived from the speed and distance given:

If you've got a Smartphone, why not use that. Take a look at an App called Cyclemeter - it's excellent and inexpensive; furthermore the company are incredibly helpful.

I've enough technology on my bike with the cycle computer.........that provides me with all the time/speed/distance info I need, and tells me how many calories and fat etc., I have burnt. What other info do we need?

thanks for the replies! I really like these GPS watches and I guess they can come in handy not only on the bike! My phone is more of a "dumb" phone, so using that isn't really an option. I'm aware that bike computers already provide some of these functions but I really prefer a portable version and if those watches come with a GPS then that's even better, since I've always wanted to try out geocaching!

Pity not having a smartphone. I use mine for riding, hiking and geocaching; it also has an excellent (free) sat nav app as well. I have 1:25000 mapping installed and can input and output GPX files. Not sure how useful a GPS watch would be for geocaching? I have a specific geocaching program installed which is the bees knees.

So a GPS watch wouldn't be useful for geocaching? I haven't tried it yet, so I'm not really aware of the requirements in terms of equipment. Thought any kind of GPS device would be sufficient? But I see how many advantages a smart phone has with respect to biking and outdoors activities in general. Maybe it's time to get a new phone

I think the GPS watch would take you to the right area but I don't know if it will help in actually locating the cache. I know people use GPS devices to Geocache and some people just paper cache. The beauty of a Smartphone (I use iPhone 4s) is that I can import caches on my mapping software and then use my geocaching App to navigate when I get near. I think you can do the same with a dedicated GPS device with mapping but don't know for sure.
For your info: I use Anquet Mapping and the Geocaching app. Works well for me.
The Cyclemeter app works brilliantly for logging a ride and has the capability of Bluetooth connection to a HRM Chest strap.

thx for the info taff! The versatility definitely makes a smartphone very attractive, something I haven't really given much thought so far. But I'll see; I think eventually I'll go with the cheapest option

A smartphone makes geocaching really easy, since there is no faffing around with printing, and then entering coords into device. Also, it enables you to do caches on the spur of the moment.

yep, got myself a smartphone, the Galaxy S3... I went into a store and just couldn't help myself but get one
Now I'll just have to get all the necessary apps
