Bike under £800?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have no clue how to go about looking for a bike but I'm in desperate need of one.

I'd like a bike that is easy for a beginner to get used to / look after. I do have a cheap mountain bike I've used a few times but I'm looking for something a little less tiring to use... and e-bikes sounds perfect for that.

Anyhow

I'm looking for a bike under £800 to use for commuting to work!

The journey is around 10 miles for a round trip, with many long shallow slopes and 1 tallish hill.

I'm 5"3 and would like to be able to have my feet touch the ground. Also I am 9 stone.

I'd rather have a folding bike (as I may want to take the bike on public transport at times), but if there isn't one under £800 that's good enough for my needs that's fine too!

Thank you

For your commute distance and height, if you want a folder under £800, the Woosh Gale with 13AH battery costs only £619.

Avoid folders for commuting if you can. They are much less comfortable to ride long distance every day than normal full size bikes with proper suspension.

The Woosh Petite is a much better commuter bike, £675 with 10AH battery or £775 with 15AH battery.

Folding electric bikes are awkward and heavy to handle, so not really suitable for public transport except in an emergency. For a 5 mile each way commute, one would be OK. Think about where you will keep it when you get to work. Do you have a secure place to put it?
He's right above, don't want to put you off but so far these electric folders are still reasonably heavy for an everyday commute, I wouldn't recommend the Kudos Secret if you were running up and down the stairs everyday on the London underground. There are Brompton and Dahon coversions availble but that would be well outside your budget at £800 (Bike and conversion costs). Having said that the occasional commute is ok, where abouts in the world are you? If youre local I can loan you the bike for the journey that you do to work.
