Bike shutting down after short while

Featured Replies

So I have my ebike it was working fine and then out of knowhere it just loses power and wont turn on and I have to plug the battery into the power supply for it to come back on I can then ride it for a short while before it dies again requiring the battery to be plugged in.

Do I need a new battery or is there something I can repair to fix this issue

More detail would help. Is it a conversion or an off the shelf ebike? What model, or which conversion kit? How big is the battery? How old is it? Did the problem start suddenly or gradually?

From your description, the battery is flat when the bike stops, it charges a bit when you plug it in for a bit, then runs again for a bit until it is flat again.

Try fully charging it and see what happens.

Yes, we need a few more details, so answer Matthew's questions. First thing you need to do is measure the battery's voltage hot off the charger, and if you can't get anything sensible there, measure it on the charge port if possible. If you have a 5.5mm jack socket, be very careful not to short the probes or the blade to the pin.

It's not a conversion it's a folding 250w rear wheel bike with a 10mah battery.

The battery has a capacity sensor and when pressed it indicates the battery is full.

The bike is just over a year old used for commuting

This happened suddenly, it was working fine and then it suddenly cut off.

It's definitely not the battery having no power its al out like shorts put or something as the power on indicator wont work and neither does the charge capacity indicator. It's like plugging the battery in resets the battery to work.

I've also noticed that when I plug the charger in even after using it it show green and doesn't start to charge the battery

You're not really helping us. What bike is it? What battery is it? Show us pictures, please.

Battery lights don't mean much. We need actual voltage.

Is this the bike you fitted a DC converter to?

Did you increase the current?

Is there anything else relevant that you're not telling us?

Anything about the time it suddenly changed behaviour? Wet, cold, bumpy roads, dropped... any clues at all!

Otherwise basic checkover of all connections etc is a good place to start.
