Make a note in your diary for Aldi's Special Cycling offers on Thursday 27th September from 8.00 to 20.00:

ALDI - Coming Soon - Cycling

My Lycra-clad cycling club neighbour tells me that Aldi's cycling tights are more efficient (and several times cheaper than big name brands).
For the non-Lycra fraternity, like me, it is advisable to wear this item UNDER your normal clothing in order not to frighten the horses!

The Aldi winter gloves and socks are pretty good and cheap and the double bike stand is about 1/3 of the price of the Park Tools one.

From my own experience it is advisable to follow the Layer Theory, which incidentally is much easier to understand then Stephen Hawking's various theories which are expounded in “A Brief History of Time”.

I can recommend the following from personal experience.

Base Layer

-Jacket:

Take your pick.

I have the waterproof Paramo Vista jacket on order from The Mountaineer Shop in Grassington:

Yes, it is extremely expensive but apparently it does breathe really well and I am not planning to replace it in the next 10 years.
Incidentally, Paramo is a UK company which has its products manufactured in Columbia.

Trousers:
Paramo Cascada:

These are freaking expensive compared to the Aldi tights but they are blooming fantastic in performance. They breathe well and kept me warm and dry when the heavens opened at the furthest point of my journey today (following that well-known law of Sod) and are several notches up on Gore-Tex apparently, according to lots of users.

Michael, a regular cyclist, was extremely helpful in assisting me to choose the right clothing and I can recommend having a chat with him to discuss your requirements ( PS I am not on commission, by the way).

Keep warm and dry!

As well as 18 lbs lighter (in 6 weeks), I am also about £60 lighter having visited Aldi today.

I am not complaining because I am very pleased with my purchases:

Cycling shoes (SPD compatible if required)-very comfortable despite the rigid sole.
2 pairs of winter cycling socks (lovely and warm)
Tool kit
Front & rear mudguard set
Bike lock

This afternoon I sold an old desktop PC which paid for the lot. Nice one.

Get down to Aldi before the ebayers buy up the lot!

I didn`t go for the clothing but for the pretty flashing armbands and miniature red and white flashing LED`s . Just to prove it wasn`t all flashing things , I also bought the Carbon Monoxide detector for £13.99 , the same in Argos is £6 more .
