Does anyone know what's required to transport your bike via train?

Just wondered. Is there an additional cost or a requirement to notify
BR, or whom ever the operator. In fact, does it depend on the operator
and their rolling stock?

there is no charge for bikes...at the moment....some operators DEMAND you have a reservation for your bike or REFUSE to carry it even if the bike place is empty...even on the intercity trains that have enough space to carry a small car..they dont carry cars that was just a space example befor im puled up on it...:p ...most of the none intercity style trains will carry your bike without a reservation although trains generally only have space for two bikes..again though its guard control and if the trains not busy they often carry more...the sensible rule is to check befor and do not just turn up hoping...some reserve but only if you have a ticket for yourself..again its a case of checking...HOWEVER if you want an easy life with NO reservations or checking befor, get yourself a BROMPTON as these are smaller then most suitcases...and if you have a carry bag for it then no comments from nobody no matter how busy the train is...

Thanks Keith. I've often wondered how the bike and train thing worked. Might try it sometime with the Brompton. :)
